Newsweek: The O'Garbage Factor; Fox News Isn't Just Bad. It's Un-American (But Lib Ethnic Slurs OK)
Newsweek ^ | Saturday, October 17, 2009 (Oct. 26 issue) | Jacob Weisberg

Posted on 10/17/2009 10:52:28 AM PDT by kristinn

Last week, when White House Communications Director Anita Dunn charged the Fox News Channel with right-wing bias, Fox responded the way it always does. It denied the accusation with a straight face while proceeding to confirm it with its coverage....

...And weepy Glenn Beck has begun to exhibit a Strangelovean concern about government invading our bloodstream by vaccinating people for swine flu. With this misinformation campaign, Fox stands to become the first network to actively try to kill its viewers....

....What's most distinctive about the American press is not its freedom but its century-old tradition of independence—that it serves the public interest rather than those of parties, persuasions, or pressure groups. Media independence is a 20th-century innovation that has never fully taken root in many other countries that do have a free press. The Australian-British-continental model of politicized media that Murdoch has applied at Fox is un-American, so much so that he has little choice but go on denying what he's doing as he does it. For Murdoch, Ailes, and company, "fair and balanced" is a necessary lie. To admit that their coverage is slanted by design would violate the American understanding of the media's role in democracy and our idea of what constitutes fair play. But it's a demonstrable deceit that no longer deserves equal time.

Whether the White House engages with Fox is a tactical political question. Whether we journalists continue to do so is an ethical one. By appearing on Fox, reporters validate its propaganda values and help to undermine the role of legitimate news organizations. Respectable journalists—I'm talking to you, Mara Liasson—should stop appearing on its programs. A boycott would make Ailes too happy, so let's try just ignoring Fox, shall we? And no, I don't want to come on The O'Reilly Factor to discuss it.

Being pro-America is now “Un-American”?? Thats the same term that Nancy Pelosi & Steny Hoyer used in their USA Today column.

Beck should sue Newsweak for slander. About time these liars get held to account for their habitual lying.

I must admit: reading that phrase sent a tingle up my leg.

Another blatant, effing lie. His show presented both sides of the argument. He also clearly said that he was not dispensing medical advise, but why report the truth when you can distort it to make your enemies look like conspiratorial kooks. It's not like millions of regular Americans have concerns about the H1N1 vaccine...

But only if there's a tingle running up its leg.

Rewarding people for being lazy, and punishing people for working hard and being successful is anti-American. Disenfranchising voters by giving taxpayer dollars to groups like ACORN that register phony voters, and in a partisan manner, is anti-American. Redistributing wealth is anti-American. The list goes on and on. If Fox is anti-American, why do more Americans watch it than other cable news? Why do the military prefer Fox. Are they anti-American too?

Sure Dunn would say that. They (Obama Administration) don't like being challanged.
The other Networks have rolled over for the most part. Fox is the only Network Left which will call them out. They don't like it. I haven't read this complete article but I'd be surprised if Dunn lists any specifics. I'll see.

What a whining bit of fish wrap News-WEAK has turned into. What he's saying is "All you other libs lets just pretend FNC isn't here and ignore them. Kind of like when you were in kindergarten and the whole class just ignores one kid. I'm surprised he didn't end this piece with "Nah Nah Na Na Nah" followed by sticking out his tongue at the FNC logo.

Can the MSM get any more pathetic?
