Anita Dunn Blames Lee Atwater for Quoting Mao
NewsBusters ^ | October 17, 2009 | P.J. Gladnick

"Taken out of context!"

"You just didn't understand the irony!"

"Just kidding!"

The incredibly lame excuses those on the left come up with to try to explain away statements they made that have come back to haunt them is growing more hilarious by the day. Robert Reich clearly stated at a 2007 Berkeley lecture what an honest candidate for president who didn't worry about getting elected would say to senior citizens who face costly treatment to keep them alive: "It's too expensive...so we're going to let you die."

Reich's excuse for this and other bizarre health care statements by a hypothetical honest candidate for president? He was being "taken out of context" despite the fact that Reich himself originally put it into perfectly clear context to the point that his Berkeley audience was applauding in approval of the brutal "truths."

It would be hard to exceed the absurdity of Reich's laughably lame excuse but White House Communications Director makes a good stab at it in trying to explain away why she favorably quoted Mao Tse Tung as one of her favorite political philosophers. Her unbelievably laughable excuse? She was only following in the footsteps of deceased Republican campaign strategist Lee Atwater who also quoted Mao. Before we get to Dunn's Lee Atwater excuse bellylaugh, let us review what she said about Mao:

Mommy! My hand isn't really in the cookie jar stealing cookies. You're just taking it out of context. I'm merely being ironic.

Totally amazing.

I watched that video on Glenn Beck. I was appalled.

Is everyone that Obama associates himself with a fruitcake.

Tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are.

A thread about the school, the occasion, and the location of Dunn’s Mao speech. Hardly where she was quoted out of context.

She was speaking from the same pulpit where President Bush spoke at the national prayer service after Sept 11, 2001;

the same pulpit where eulogies were given for Ronald Reagan

I recognized it immediately, and consider her address to be an abomination, but at the same time, her words were probably ordinary to the people in attendance.

They probably had more unsettled stomachs about the name Mother Teresa than they did about Chairman Mao.

Think about it, these people always run away from their communist and even liberal ideas when they’re caught. Liberals don’t like being called liberals.

Why? Because the KNOW it’s bad.

Do you ever see conservatives dodge the conservative label? Do Christians ever deny being Christians?

No.

It is a shock that she didn’t blame Bush.

Liberal used to be a nice word.
Tolerant used to have a reasonable definition.

It is what these people do, while calling themselves ‘liberal’ that has made the word seem unacceptable. I won’t use it to describe them, and have noticed that a lot more commentators have shifted to ‘leftist’ when discussing the present day democrats.

And yes, conservatives are proud to claim the title. We do not hide from our thoughts and actions.

She said she read the Lee Atwater joke in a book or news article many years ago. I say produce the document. If it’s in print, it can be produced.

She still blamed Bush through Atwater. She is probably applauding herself thinking she is so clever. Instead she burned up her last brain cell acknowledging she is a know nothing garden variety boring robot of the communist kind. So typical of the I can’t think for myself; so I will allow idiots to do my thinking for me.

Children of the father of lies.

Clue, when twisting words... make sure not to say they’re ‘your favorite’ philosopher. Kinda gives it away.

Since she broke down the atmosphere around which Mao said this, she can show us where she read it... right?

Mao presided over the deaths by starvation, neglect, imprisonment, firing squads and torture of over two hundred million people in the Great Leap Forward, and Red Guard.

Dunn is a stupid stupid woman and of course, represents the abysmal people in the Obama Administration.

Show me your friends and I’ll tell you what you are.

Actual numbers are estimated at 40M to 70M, not "over 200M."

Accuracy uber alles.

she’s probably just so intellectually and morally deficient that she thinks Mao is a great philosopher.

Not to mention she was in church speaking to high schoolers.

I was told Episcopalian, waiting for the name and location... to make some calls.

Oh, btw... she worked in the Carter admin., worked for Daschle, double agent for Obama working in the Blair Hull campaign (one of two divorce records unsealed for him to win, thanks Axelrod), her hubby is Robert Bauer, eligibility lawyer for Obama, (you may laugh, he also sent a lot of lawyer letters when somehow a lot of our blogs got shut down, and if I remember right... caused a huge dust-up crashing a Hill conf. call), both have deep DSCC ties.
