I don't know Black's philosophy, but I will say that he parodies heavy metal music in his mock band Tenacious D.

I think it was shtick. I wouldn't get too worked up over it.

It's probably just humor. He's probably just parodying actual prayers to Satan.

How else do you explain some people's success in the music industry? :O
