This bears further research. I have been feeling kindly toward Chile (met one of their Congressmen at the AFP conference two weeks ago) who extolled their successes in creating a privately managed retirement fund for most of the population as well as investing sufficient national funds to avoid having to borrow anything to fund their government support and stimulus efforts during the world economic crisis. It all sounded very conservative and responsible. More research needed.
I love it down here. The people are friendly, the mountains are great, the wine and food is great, international business is good, Chile is a “net creditor nation, a good model for private health care, the retirement funds WORK and the cops don’t put up with any BS!
