COLLEGE STATION, Texas – More than 500 protesters gathered at Texas A&M University this afternoon, denouncing President Barack Obama as a socialist ahead of his arrival for a forum on volunteerism.

Former President George Bush, who has a library and school of public policy on campus, had asked critics to keep their vitriol in check as he joined the current president in celebrating 20 years of his Points of Light effort – a cause that has provided common ground for all four of the most recent presidents.

I heard on Rush that GHWB had sent out word that protestors were not welcome. BS!

So, Mr. New World Order Bush didn’t want protesters, then he should pick his pals better! Thanks to all those who defied him and showed up to protest!

A local media animal just reported that, “protestors were gathered, both supporters and opponents, to welcome Obama,” and the crowd loudly boo’d him when he mentioned supporters. Funny!

It’s why I don’t trust ANY Bush. GWB was what got us into our current mess, and GHWB has always been a fruitcake.

It's like going into the lions den. Obammma is no fool, he is looking for trouble. Aggies are truly ladies and gentlemen so the probability of something physical occurring is about the same as his approval rating in my household(not sure about how my dog feels about him yet). I can almost guarantee that he won't be booed or thrown whip cream pies at or talked over( gee, that's sounds like a liberal school tactic now doesn't it)

I wish GWB was our President now, with a filibuster-proof Republican Senate.

The Aggies that I am watching looks like they are spoiling for a fight. VERY loud and vocal, and the signs are about as tough as I have seen.

He would continue to spend us into oblivion as he did during his eight years in the seat.

I think Rush was being a drama queen:

In advance of the event, Mr. Bush has penned an open letter to the "Texas A&M Family" that seems to be a subtle call for the community to be on its best behavior. (He opens it with a friendly "Howdy!")

"This will be an important national moment, and a moment for Texas A&M to shine in the global spotlight as it always does," he writes. "I sincerely hope and believe it will serve as a point of Aggie pride for many years to come."

As Mr. Bush notes in his letter, which was posted by KBTX, the event is meant to be a non-partisan celebration of "the importance of service to our communities and our country."

CBS News

A copy of the letter is here. Protesters were not even mentioned.

Same here! Papa Bush swore allegiance to the UN! How is that for being a fruitcake? No wonder Dubya did things the way he did.

Bush said nothing about protesters, he subtly asked that people be respectful because this was a non-partisan event. See my post #11 on this thread for the context of his letter.

OU-Texas is tomorrow, otherwise I’d drive out there.

Did you hear the young man/student call Rush on the subject? He said not only did A&M put out the word via Student Body president, but GHWB did as well. He said they were actively stating to NOT protest or otherwise make signs, or show any action that would not show unity. Rush ask the caller what he planned to do, and the caller stated, “Protest.”

No, a better conservative. There are better choices we could make than a Bush.

He may not have said it, but the mere fact that he felt he had to write that piece tells you he was doing a little pre damage control. IMO!

My wife was in San Francisco yesterday for a doctor’s appointmet. She said there were lots (her word) of protesters against Obammy in downtown Libville.

Didn’t hear a peep about it on TV.
