A sheriffs office that helped chase down a saucer-shaped balloon that officials feared was carrying a six-year-old boy over Colorado is now considering billing the childs family hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay for a rescue effort that turned out to be needless, Canwest News Service reports:
A spokeswoman for the Weld County Sheriffs Office said all of the countys on-duty resources were expended in the balloon chase Thursday, which ended when the sliver, UFO-likecontraption floated to the ground without a child aboard. It was later discovered the child was hiding in the attic of his familys garage.
Deputy Margie Martinez said officers were called in early to help in the rescue effort, forcing the county to put all other service calls on hold.
We might send them a bill, said Martinez. We had all these resources taken away from doing the workload that would normally be done and redirected toward this one incident.
She told Canwest News Servicez the bill could range into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Could??
Could? If they don’t, everybody in Colorado should grab torches and pitchforks and head for their house.
Puuut itonmy tab.
I think I would be pretty embarrassed to be known as part of the “Rescue” effort
What’s a few thou when TV shows, publishers and Hollywood are calling?
And led by Shep Smith.
If they can verify it is a hoax, bill ‘em.
Sorry I forgot to pray yeasterday. Prayers going up.
Colorado is one of a few states that does not charge for rescue.
If this case is deemed a hoax that is an entirely different situation.
Bill the networks, too. They fueled it.
I heard that the family was on tv and I've heard numerous updates on this story. I never have heard that he lived until now.
Is there a car chase on tv somewhere that I can watch?
Was the site of the air balloon and the family’s home the same spot? If not, I’m curious how the kid got home without anyone noticing.
Don’t forget that this is a shameful suck up publicity hound scum family that has appear TWICE on wife swap. Big hoaxers!
All we needed was a prank “Captain Janks” call to make the circus complete.
??? In that case, bill all the dupes who watched it, too. The networks were just giving them what they wanted.
They should procure a bigger balloon and put the whole family on it—let ‘em all have a one-way ride. Maybe they could stick Matt Lauer and Al Roker on it to cover it from inside. Buh-Bye.
Now that’s “must see TV”!
The Balloon Boy story is a perfect example of the USA’s largest political party, the Narcissistic Party. This party includes democrats, republicans and independents.
What do they mean considering?
This was an obvious crime.
No, they will receive their bill in the form of having to reimburse all their sponsors who lost out on the ad-time because they ran this ridiculous nugget. Poetic justice, once again.
Well, in this instance, the TV shows, publishers and Hollywood will lose their sgirts.
It is more than obvious that this was the goal of the scam artist parents.
Who wants to see or read anything about total loser mental health poster parents?
Not at all. The rescuers risked life and limb to rush to the aid of a child in danger. Embarrassed? I'd say PO'ed is what I'd be.
