Can't they just use a thermal camera? That thing has to be cold as heck, and if there is a kid in the gondola it should show a hot spot. The Mylar will dissipate a lot of the heat, but you should still be able to see something. Especially if any part of the child is touching the wall, then you would have a bright spot.
