It has really hit close to home (not only because my son will be deployed to Afghanistan upon acceptance of his commission and training), but because we buried a Marine last week who died in a fire fight in Afghanistan (outpost) due to lack of ammo. That Marine KNEW he was probably going to die. He KNEW they didn't have the supplies or ammunition. He KNEW they were being betrayed by the local constabulary. What he didn't know is they were betrayed by those who sent them there, by a Senator who betrayed his brothers in arms once before and is totally capable of doing it again — and has. I attend the Mothers' Club meetings every third Tuesday of the month, and I get to hear the stories. I get to see the quilts we send to the families when their loved one comes home in a metal box -- we don't just do it for Marines, because Marines don't just do it for Marines -- they do it for all their brothers and sisters who serve. They are the servants of those who serve. If this doesn't make people stand up for our men and women who are in harm's way -- there's no hope for this country.

Let me know what I can do to help. My son told me that a unit is scheduled to leave for Afghanistan in two weeks. He talked to one of the guys and asked when’s the last time he fired a rifle. The answer was “two or three months ago” and only one turn on the range. He termed it “a joke.”

This is our force in readiness. People, if you aren’t angry enough to go and get in the face of your representatives, I don’t know what will do it. I have a mind to march on Camp LeJeune and demand they return my son!
