Time For The GOP Women
Washington Post ^ | 10/14/09 | Kathleen Parker

Posted on 10/14/2009 6:20:54 AM PDT by steve-b

As the Republican Party continues its pilgrimage through the desert, its leaders may be missing the oasis for the vale of tears.

The answer to the party's woes isn't a revamped Web site (GOP.com) offering -- wowser! -- really cool social networking platforms.

The answer won't be found in the sudden realization that 83 percent of young people 18 to 24 have an online profile -- or other late-breaking revelations that merely reinforce the perception of the GOP as woefully behind the curve.

The answer is . . . drum roll, please . . . women.

If the GOP is really serious about expanding the party, it's time for the men to hush and let the pros take over. As the saying goes: If you need something done, hire a busy woman. Or, as the White House Project puts it: "Add women, change everything."

In the past few months, several conservative women have emerged as candidates and critics to challenge the notion that the GOP is the party of men. They're also putting to rest any thought that Sarah Palin is the female face of the party.

The McCain campaign had the right idea; it just picked the wrong woman....

Oh, quite true. It’s just that among all of American women, the “strong independent conservative” faction numbers about 10%. The other 90% are are mush-headed, mindless, emotion-driven, Oprah-watching, conflict-avoiding-at-all-costs, therapy-supporting, whiny idiots. 90%. As Mark Levin might say “Yes, I said it.”.

I guess Kathleen has to sell out conservatism periodically in order to get published by the Washington Post. A bit like George Will with ABC and Newsweek.

Parker and Noonan, et.al., are an embarrassment to real women.

For what it’s worth, those percentages are not so different in the Male portion of our population.

“For what it’s worth, those percentages are not so different in the Male portion of our population.”

Oh God, you again? Do you ever get anything right? First, we have to listen to your rantings about how good Big Ten football is, when they get their lunch handed to them annually. And now, you run this tripe up the flag pole? C’mon. Please clue in, ever.

The few times I have listened to Lynn Cheney she has been just great. I like her husband also. Perhaps the “politics of personal destruction” practiced preemptively against Dick Cheney kept him from seeking his party's nomination and kept him from becoming President in 2008. Our loss.

And another quality response. You come into a thread and throw out a mindless comment, get called out on it, and then your response is to call someone a jerk. Get with the program.

Kathleen, first, we’ve had some fairly strong, intelligent women rise to prominent positions in the GOP and the conservative movement (including, yes, Sarah Palin), and as wonderful as it is, it’s not the panacea you seem to think. We got crap for it, and the women themselves got crap for it (definitely including Sarah Palin).

Second, if you’re going to cast the advent of women in GOP politics as the pros taking over, it might help if you could come up with better than one woman in four (Liz Cheney) who’s ever worked in a high government position.

Third, if you’re going to argue that there are women in the GOP that can and should overshadow Sarah Palin, it might help if you can come up with even one in four who can actually do it. Again, Liz Cheney is the only one who comes close.

Fourth and finally...discussing the women who should be stars in the GOP and on the right and trying not to include Sarah Palin is like discussing the great players of the NBA over the last few decades and trying to leave out Michael Jordan.

Ha, ha, ha! Nice timing, Parker! Right after a liberal woman, Olympia Snowejob (RINO-Maine), just sold out the GOP.

Followed less than 24 hours later by Susan Collins.

Witness the foul stench of identity politics wafting from Kathleen Parker.
Accepting the liberal premise of “we need more women” is what got us Obama.

1. She's not deserving of the name "Kathleen". She's more of a Kate, or Katty...like Peggy (Noonan).

2. She says she wants more women...just not those like Sarah Palin. Does Katty ever set foot outside the Beltway/NY nexus?

I saw that. It's why I have a healthy suspicion of any woman calling herself conservative. All we need now is Hutchinson and Murkowski to fold for the grand slam of GOP Senate women.

I'm not worried about those two: KBH wants to be the next governor, so she's been more conservative than in years past.

If Murkowski were to vote for Obamacare, I believe the author of "Rogue" would give her a primary challenge next time around.

Actually, you're the one who answered my comment with something like, "you misunderstand college football unlike me, so you shouldn't be taken seriously in anything else you say."

This from a moron who worships a coach who is a lib, a program that despite its record of cheating in recruiting, despite its record of paying its players, can't seem to ever stay winless enough to go to the championship game. Your school should take down its lone banner for shame in its obvious scandal and rule breaking, and you should feel the same, but you don't. So why should we listen to anything you say?

I probably need to put an /sarcasm here for a certain moron poster.

“Despite its record of cheating in recruiting, despite its record of paying its players..”

Yeah, nice try with the liberal mindset wish list. And let me know when the NCAA finds any of this ‘cheating’ you talk about. However, I do remember your Heisman winner from a few years back breaking the rules and getting the University in trouble, not to mention the mess your basketball program made. But don’t let facts get in the way of anything, you rarely do. Also, if you think Pete Carroll is ‘a lib’, you are dreaming. Pete works the media better than you can even know, and all you know is what you see in the media.
