I hope the father doesn't turn out to be the murderer that Rifka thinks he is.

It would be a darn shame if the girl just ran away. (till her Aug. 2010 birthday)

Please cite any evidence you have that the girl’s life is in danger from her parents.

They belong to a cult where this type of event happens with some-what frequency and with no regards for the USC.

The article did cite physical abuse. There was also a published threat on her life (anonymous) from a website.

What have the parents said, or did that would lead you to believe that they will kill her?

Also cited in the article by the girl's attorney. AND there is a well documented pattern of honor murders in the Muslim world. There are documented cases of there murders by formerly "peace loving" followers of Islam in this country as recently as this year.

It's only legalistic sophistry to argue that there isn't a threat.

Pregnant Teens: Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland and Oklahoma allow pregnant teens or teens who have already had a child to get married without parental consent.

Problem solved

From article

But a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation found no credible threats to Bary.

Contacted by FOXNews.com, Rifqa'a father Mohamed Bary said he has no intentions of harming his daughter.

"I love my daughter and I want her to come back to the family," he said, declining further comment"

You stated, "The article did cite physical abuse." Please enlighten me, I saw no such allegation. Now, perhaps you wish that people can make decisions based upon F-e-e-l-i-n-g-s (whoa, whoa, whoa) - but I prefer to stick to the truth, facts and the law.

It requires no 'legalistic sophistry' at all; just a calm, rational, mature and thought out look at the reality, not what you want to see. If there were anything other than what the news reports, I would agree with you. But, read the article and you'll see that she ran away in Feb after her parents discovered that she had been baptized, and was found living with a Pastor in Orlando.

The ONLY thing we have is her statement If I had stayed in Ohio, I wouldn't be alive," she said. "In 150 generations in family, no one has known Jesus. I am the first — imagine the honor in killing me." during a 6 minute interview with the local TV station. Now we both know that teen age girls never, ever, even consider invoking drama whenever it suits their purpose to get attention. Oh ,no; that is absolutely not even a possibility, right?

So the blows she received from her father were fabricated?

Indeed. The judge just sentenced this girl to hell. Did you want Elian Gonzalez returned his father in Cuba too?

Now we both know that teen age girls never, ever, even consider invoking drama whenever it suits their purpose to get attention. Oh ,no; that is absolutely not even a possibility, right?

Oh, and we also know that Muslims from foreign countries never ever even consider murdering women and call it an "honor killing" and then deny they did anything wrong.

What blows? Source please. Not in the article.

And as a matter of fact, yes I do believe that the Father has the right to get custody of his son - whether he lives in Cuba, Japan, Saudia Arabia, Nigeria or Florida.

Would you allow others to deny you custody of your children, just because you don't live they approve of? Who are you to tell a Father that he cannot take his son home? Seems pretty arrogant to me. Who are you to tell other people that they cannot have their children returned? Would you tolerate uninvolved 3rd parties deciding whether you get to see your children again? Whether you did anything abusive or not is immaterial, you are the 'wrong religon'. I'd guess you would object to that; and that would make you a hypocrite, wouldn't it?

We are not discussing Muslims in other countries, we are talking about parents in Ohio, USA. Again, any sources for your allegations of abuse, threats? Perhaps you have sources that the Florida police do not have access too.

The article in World Net Daily makes it clearer

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=112855

Jamal Jivanjee, an Ohio pastor who knew of the teen's conversion to Christianity from Islam in the face of opposition from her family, had pleaded for protection for her....

"As you may know, Rifqa’s parents discovered that she was a Christian and her worst fear came true. In addition to threats of physical violence and death, Rifqa's parents threatened to take her back to Sri Lanka and place her in an asylum to 'convince' her to convert back to Islam because apostasy in Islam is a very serious offence, and brings shame on the family."

Pamela Geller at Atlas Shrugs

http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/

...Investigators, however, have said they could document no physical threat to the teen, even though Geller posted screen captures of an alleged threat to the teen's life that was available on the Internet.

Screen captures of the threats on her life:

http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2009/09/rifqa-bary-facebook-fatwa-we-need-to-kill-her-.html

That a Florida judge finds this unpersuasive is foolish. The girl ran for her life.

I agree that there is cause to fear; but there is no hard evidence that anything she said is true.

If she alleged sexual abuse, physical or emotional abuse, that could be acted upon. Yet, no one as alleged anything of the kind. Psychiatric testing on both her, and her parents failed to find a threat; as did an investigation by the Florida police.

There is no evidence that anything has happened, no evidence that any threats were made by any family member. Any Islam idiot (and there are Gazillions of them) could have made an internet threat; heck, to illustrate the point she or one of her friends may have posted a threat just to get attention. That sort of thing has happened before, she wouldn’t be the first, nor the last.

What facts do we have? She is a minor, her parents want her home, they have done nothing wrong, they have been accused of no wrong doing, they have no criminal record, no record of abuse and aside from being Muslim there wouldn’t be any question in this matter.

What rights do the parents have? Are a parent’s rights only applicable to Christians? This seems to be more of a Christian vs Islam debate, than anything else; but the end result is nothing short of an attack on the Constitution.

We have laws, she had her day in court and it didn’t go the way she wanted it to go. Heck, I would rather live in Florida than Ohio, wouldn’t you?

Her misfortune is that she did not run to a state where 17 is an old enough age to become emancipated. As far as evidence, the WND article also recounts her being struck hard by her father and implied threats.

Evidence? Apparently she has to show up to the courtroom with broken bones or other wounds to establish it.

There are cases of children running from communism and being granted asylum with out any parents at all at the age of 12. At 17, she is old enough to do what she wants. In this case, the law is an ass- IMHO.

There are many reasons a Muslim daughter is subject to an “honor” killing but becoming a Christian is t the top of the list.

The problem with that is the Muslim father that killed his two daughters has disappeared into thin air. I suspect that the Muslim community will hide one of their own that commits a crime like that because they are fulfilling an Islamic requirement.

FYI-

An attorney for Rifqa did not return calls seeking comment; his staff cited a court-imposed gag order. Staver said the threat against Rifqa is real and that Muslims, not Christians, have turned the story into another televised courtroom circus.
