Sweeping Health Bill Passes Senate Panel [O Hails "Extraordinary Diligence"]

Sweeping Health Bill Passes Senate Panel

The $829B plan would require most Americans to purchase insurance

Oct. 13: Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe announces in the Senate Finance Committee debate that she will vote for the heath care bill, telling her colleagues she has misgivings about the bill, but "when history calls, history calls."

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama's vow to overhaul the U.S. health care system has cleared a key hurdle with a Senate committee passing a bill.

The Senate Finance Committee approved legislation Tuesday that meets most of the requirements set out by Obama for expanding coverage and cutting costs. The president has made health care reform his top domestic priority.

But Obama's plan still faces an uncertain future. The measure now goes before the full Senate. The House of Representatives is working on its own bill and the two measures would eventually have to be reconciled.

Obama had hoped for bipartisan support, but only one moderate Republican on the 23-member committee, Olympia Snowe, backed the plan.

Her decision gave the final vote a significance that transcended partisan divisions. For months, congressional Republicans have been virtually unanimous in denouncing the Democratic bills as an unwarranted expansion of government influence.

The Maine senator kept virtually all of Washington guessing about how she would vote until she announced it late in the Senate Finance Committee debate Tuesday. She told her colleagues she has misgivings about the bill, but "when history calls, history calls."

The president had earlier praised Snowe and the panel for "extraordinary diligence" on health reform.

LucyT: See post #34;

Maybe we should distribute post #23 as a flyer all over the country with a suggestion to check off items on the “TO DO” list that citizens think are already DONE.

And then say]:

Think for yourself.
What do you think BHO is up to?
Get the big picture yet?
Is that OK with you?
Is that the country you want your children and grandchildren to grow up in?

The Repubs should have done something like this in a mass mailing long ago.

I cannot tell you how shocked I was to hear his speak of his mother. He feels she lived too long.

You would think that might be a RED FLAG to seniors-—if they ever get an opportunity to hear of his remarks.

Indoctrination of the elderly -— as if they were not already the most vulnerable segment of the US population and the ones who will be hardest hit by all of BHO’s malevolent schemes.

You know what I think? I had this insight in the middle of the night a couple of nights ago.

The boomer generation is a huge cohort. We are all getting into our senior years — into the social security and medicare/medicaid territory. Our old age will be a HUGE expense in the future. All that is obvious.

But what is not obvious is how black the hearts are of bond holders. Our national bond holders. Each decade longer we live, in our cohort represents a Trillions in costs more senior than their bonds. More senior because of the politics. We have the votes to make our costs more payable than the bonds. Each decade longer we live, the less — by somewhere in the hundreds of billions — their bond payments are worth.

So what do do? Remove us. Remove both the cost that impairs the bond value and the vote that dilutes the bond value.

Of all Senators, it makes the most sense that Mr. Rockefeller would make that statement. Of course he’d express the desire to kill off the elderly sooner. He only used his mother’s circumstance as a place-holder for the ideal. Rockefeller understands international bond values.

He wasn’t talking about or even thinking about his mother, really. He was talking about us.

They want to kill us off.

Furthermore, those very organizations that exist to protect the elderly are now betraying them.

I am disgusted beyond words. Any Congressman not fully aware of the unrelenting pressure that is going to be put on the elderly to reject treatment “for the good of the country and for the sake of the future for their grandchildren’ -— is either too corrupt, too stupid, or too incompetent to serve in office.

I’d say that this “health care” bill could really a plan to kill off the boomers. It is that bad. It won’t just kill us off, but every generation after. It will kill off the US, and a good part of the world too. And not by costs — by heightened risk actual medical and health catastrophe.

It will stop most medical progress in its tracks. Withing two decades we will be back to early 1900’s level of health care. Diseases adapt — we will no longer have that ability.

So many are so confused, the confusions are due to the moral depravity that has taken over our popular and elite cultures. The Congress is making a horrible, tragic mistake.

Exactly...but not himself. Congress won’t even sign themselves on to ObamaCare, much less die off for the sake of the economy. Do you think death counselors are going to visit senior members of Congress?

Fascism always has an oligarchy who wants to impose its will on the people for the sake of the country, and they are ALWAYS exempted from their own rules because they consider themselves too important to the cause. Everyone but themselves are expendable at any given time.

Sarah Palin was right. There will be death panels.

That they sit there and smirk, joke, and tell damned lies makes me ill.

Rarely have I been in such despair about the future of America.

Even if they reserve the best health care for themselves, it will soon enough become like the best of health care circa 1900! What made America’s contributions to humanity great were that we did not have classes, that anyone was able to and anyone did contribute to advances in every arena of human endeavor, that the poplar market was huge and energetic, thus able to accept and welcome a huge number of advances year after year.

With this insanity of legislation, especially on top of the corrupting and hobbling super-huge stimulus bills and bank bailouts already going on, and the very possible enactment of cap and tax — the American cornucopia of enterprise, invention and innovation will be crushed. Medical innovations will slow to a trickle, and even those will be toxic in some perverted way, given the perversion of the culture that produces them. Doctors will flee to early retirement, few high-performers will sign up for the difficult training and hard work.

Even Congress and the Elite will find few good doctors and surgeons to be had.

We all lose.

Husband and I watched the entire hearing on CSPAN.

I am still enraged at Rockefeller’s comments.

That said, some of the idiot callers to CSPAN are a big part of the problem.

They think the dems are all telling the truth. If they actually listened they’d be running for the hills.

Yes, everything says “Despair!”, it is a disaster. Yet it is in this very time that we can not afford Despair. Nor is mere hopeful optimism useful, should we be able or trained to muster it.

Instead we must become like unbreakable steel, and take an edge — and cut through the poisoned vines that encircle us with bold stance and firm hand. May the G-d who is dear to us, allow us the strength, path and venture needed to turn this nation back onto a course for the good.

Ever since Glenn Beck started his expose & Rush started to scream out about the big picture (along the lines of post #23), I have been very concerned about what I think is a huge segment of the population who aren’t getting enough information to see the big picture -— people who haven’t seen Beck (he is on at 5pm & 2am -— not exactly primetime); people who only get maybe 10 minutes of MSM news. These people I am concerned about are conservatives or moderates — the heartland of America.

I even think half of the Dems who voted for Obama would revolt if they truly understood what was happening.

Most of us at FR have made it our job to understand how sweeping these diabolical “reforms” are & just who BHO is. It is ingrained in our mindset. Most of the country is still sound asleep. They still think this is about “business as usual” Dems vs Repubs, when except for what I call the Democrat Corruptocracy, this coup has very little to do with Dems vs Repubs.

I often think of Pat Cadell (Dem consultant & pollster) on one of the Glenn Beck expose programs. You could see a light bulb turn on in his mind; he was visibly shaken, and he said, “Washington has become the enemy of the people.”

All those hundreds of thousands of people who attending the D.C. protests on 9/12 were deemed unAmerican and not representative of real Americans.

I wish I knew what more we can do. But for sure prayers will be part of the process.

Snow says she has serious misgivings...but that she must vote for it anyway in response to the "call of history."

IOW, she's a political whore, plain and simple.

If you have serious misgivings about a bill, you vote against it.

The basic facts have not changed since August. This is a monstrosity and the American people will hold these people accountable.

We participated in the Denver rally on 9/12.

It’s that feeling that we are invisible and irrelevant that is so sickening.

How about you have to pay more in taxes than you receive in benefits/tax breaks from the government.
