NAACP raises questions about mayoral succession
Baltimore Sun ^ | 10-13-10 | Annie Linskey

"Leaders of the Maryland NAACP, worried that a Baltimore mayor's criminal conviction could result in the appointment of a white or Republican leader who may not fully represent the majority black and Democratic city, are asking state lawmakers to strip the governor of authority to permanently fill the office.

The request, made in a resolution adopted at a state meeting of the civil rights group last weekend, marks the first time a mainstream organization has raised questions about succession should Baltimore Mayor Dixon be convicted of any of the nine charges she faces. Dixon has been indicted for theft and perjury and the first of two trials is scheduled for early next month."

....the NAACP wants to make sure the city stays firmly in the hands of black Democrats....despite the fact they have run the city into the ground...same thing in most American cities they control.

What a choice. A felon or a Republican.

Would someone please post the picture of the little boy saying “That’s Racist” ? The current management has turned Balmur into a complete and total hell hole. It is now a third-rate sub-Saharan African city only with a cold, crappy climate.

Maybe they should put good candidates in office; not crooks and thugs.

Obama will probably weigh in on this, the same way he pressured the governor of MA to circumvent the law and make a quickie interim appointment.

As long as the right pretends to be race blind and all these political race groups are allowed to exist from either the left OR the right. This devolution of America will continue unabated.

“Obama will probably weigh in on this, the same way he pressured the governor of MA to circumvent the law and make a quickie interim appointment.”

.....I would not be one bit surprised....and BTW, the NAACP is headquartered in Baltimore...the Dem Party gives them a million dollars a year...it’s a very profitable investment...because in return, the Dems get control of the voting apparatus of major inner cities across the country.

Here is what bothers me...If a city that is predominently white, tried the same tactics to assure a white mayor, the villification of them would be endless. The NAACP has gotten away with this stuff for far too long. It doesn’t make much sense to me that anorganization that seeks equal rights can achieve that by stomping on the rights of others. Their antics do more to deepen the divide between people of different color. people need to wake up and realize that this organization deepens the rift in order to survive. If we achieved equality, there would be no need for them. That is why they work so hard to assure this never happens.

Our current governor, a Democrat, was the white mayor of Baltimore. And he was a disaster. Crook or not, Sheila Dixon is doing a much better job as mayor than her predecessor. Baltimore still looks like London circa 1944, but unfortunately the problems are beyond what the mayor can fix on her own.

We have a city council that holds a lot of power and runs the city like their personal fiefdoms. We also have a city states attorney that refuses to prosecute some crimes because you can’t get anyone to testify against the perps because of the “stop snitching” culture. And throw into that the fact that the police refuse to even fill out reports for a lot of crimes for fear that it will accurately record the crime statistics and show just how bad things really are in Baltimore.

If it weren’t for the first-class emergency medical system in Baltimore, our murder rate would be double what it is now. Many gunshot victims survive here because of the medical system that would die in other cities, and so our murder rate, though high, is way lower than it would otherwise be.

So to recap - Sheila Dixon is a pretty decent mayor under the circumstances, and there is not a whole lot that any other person can do to turn this city around without wholesale replacement of the city council and city states attorney. And that’s not going to happen.

Move.

The really troubling thing is that so many people find this a hard decision to make.

It’s actually easy to figure this out. Bring in an outsider to be their mayor, like Marian Barry. That’ll fix it.
