That is thought to be why the flu pandemic of 1916-18 killed off so many 20-30 something year olds. Strong immune systems. Kids got off easy because their immune systems are still developing. Geezers, such as myself, have immune systems that are “going away”. A strong immune system is not necessarily the best path to survival, just as thoroughbreds are not the healthiest horses.

The best path to long term survival is being average. At either side of the Bell curve lies death.

That’s what I’ve imagined when they state the kids have pre-existing conditions. When my son was young he had asthma, and every cold or virus was a “crisis.”

I wish they'd just state what the condition is. As parents, we would react differently hearing that the pre-existing condition was asthma vs cerebral palsy.

I haven't seen one article mentioning smoking as a factor, which by any account, it seems it should be.

It would be interesting to learn Carson’s and other kids’ pre-existing conditions that seem to have made the difference between surviving this flu and not. I have a severely asthmatic son (adult now, praise God) who was susceptible to every germ that hit him or his school. The problem most people don’t understand with asthma is not only not being able to get oxygen into their respiratory systems, but to exhale the toxins. The meds for severe asthma, especially prednisone, cause the compromise to the immune system. It becomes a vicious cycle.

Since this strain of flue has been verifies as less lethal though more communicable than normal strains of flue, then the strain he caught is hardly a factor, now is it?

One could successfully argue a normal flue strain would have killed the child faster. Less suffering in that I suppose, but also less time for his loved ones to spend with him.

I have read many, many articles on swine flu.

A few of them explained that this flu is different because it can attack deep into the respiratory system. The people are dying get a form of bacteria pneumonia...after the fever from the flu leaves.

They said, most times the flu is mild. Symptoms include coughing, sore throat, fever body aches and sometimes diarrhea.

Once the fever goes away (without being on tylenol or advil) and it returns, this is the time to immediately get medical attention, as this when this pneumonia shows up.

They put these deaths into the news, without fully explaining the circumstances surrounding it.

H1N1 does not cause a cytokine storm.

H5N1 is the currently watched strain that causes that condition. Unlike H1N1, H5N1 isn’t very communicable so far.
It is, however an avian strain and if it becomes pandemic we won’t be able to stop the spread. It has had a 60% mortality rate even with modern treatment.

Interesting. Sorry for the child. A fine looking boy. We are told that the swine flu is milder than than regular flu. At the same time we are told we must get vaccinated to protect ourselves from this dangerous bug. Then the UN says the bug didn't mutate so the bug is not dangerous. Yet empirical evidence indicates it can be quite deadly. I will just trust to providence.

My granddaughter’s father has the swine flu. My granddaughter is on Tamiflu. Don’t know how bad he is, but I presume it is fairly mild.

Agreed. My discussion was directed towards the cytokine storm portion of the comment. I find it interesting that a robust immune system can be too robust. It is counter-intuitive, but an actual phenomenon no less.

a local (to me) 23-year old teacher with no pre-existing condition died of H1N1 last month... her future in-laws attend my church... it was shocking to everyone who knew her...

Facts about H1N1:

1) It doesn't fit a standard "naturally evolved" virus genetic pattern.

2) This government lies about everything, except its Czars' desire to reduce the human population, and rule the remnant with an iron fist.

3) This flu will mutate and continue to attack the young and healthy in abnormal proportions.

4) This government will leverage a superflu epidemic at the cost of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or millions of American lives in order to increase its power, and laugh while they do it.

5) The "inoculation" medical procedure being pushed by the Obama Coup is exactly as trustworthy and tested as their economic and military procedures.
