I think that it's telling that Sportsfishermen groups were effectively locked out of participation in this.

That tells me something.....

In theory, I'm in favor of managing our natural resources, including managing our fisheries. There have been cases in the past where, without good stewardship, fisheries were decimated. The Chesapeake Bay comes to mind. I think it's come back quite a bit now after having been ravaged. I worked in a kitchen in the area, and found it quite sad that "Maryland" crab cakes contained Venezualan crab meat.

I doubt that the Obama team will merely manage our fisheries responsibly. I'm sure they will show themselves to be enviro-whackos. But that doesn't mean wildlife management is a bad thing.

There is the question of jurisdiction, but like most Constitutional questions, it's merely an intellectual exercise. Fedzilla can pretty much do as it pleases.

Anyway, I didn't see any ban of sportfishing in the report. And in theory, there are cases where sportfishing DOES need to be limited. I wish sport fisherman were all responsible stewards, but we know they aren't. That's why there are size limits etc.

I'm a sport fisherman in a densely populated state, so I have some understanding and sympathy for regulation. If we didn't have regulations here in NJ, the damn russians would have caught and eaten every fish in NJ by now.
