SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT ...STRONG PACIFIC STORM TO BRING HIGH SURF...GUSTY WINDS...AND RAIN...
Accuweather ^ | MON OCT 12 2009 302 AM PDT | NWS SAN DIEGO CA

Posted on 10/12/2009 11:40:53 AM PDT by Ernest_at_the_Beach

A STRONG PACIFIC STORM MOVING THROUGH NORTHERN AND CENTRAL
CALIFORNIA LATE TUESDAY THROUGH EARLY WEDNESDAY WILL BRING SOME
IMPACTS TO EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA.

THE STORM WILL GENERATE A LARGE WEST SWELL WHICH WILL MOVE THROUGH
THE COASTAL WATERS WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY BRINGING HIGH SURF TO
EXPOSED WEST FACING BEACHES WITH SOME BREAKERS EXCEEDING 10 FEET
POSSIBLE. THIS SURF WILL CAUSE DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS.

OTHER IMPACTS MAY EXTEND INTO NORTHERN PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA WITH MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE AS FAR SOUTH
AS THE SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS AND STRONG...GUSTY WINDS POSSIBLE
IN MOUNTAIN AND DESERT AREAS OF SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY. ANY
MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL COULD CAUSE MUD AND DEBRIS FLOWS IN THE
SHEEP BURN AREA. THERE IS A CHANCE OF RAIN FOR AREAS FARTHER SOUTH
AND AMOUNTS IN THESE AREAS ARE EXPECTED TO BE LESS.

PRECEDING THE STRONG STORM...A WEAKER SYSTEM WILL BRING A CHANCE
OF LIGHTER RAINFALL LATE TODAY THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY WITH GREATEST
RAINFALL CHANCES TO THE NORTH AND LESSER CHANCES TO THE SOUTH.

“We took a ride up to Trinidad this morning and there was not one boat tied up in the harbor!!! That is the first time in my 55 years up here that I have witnessed this. We could get 2 to 4 inches which means the Matole watershed will get 10 to 12 inches...”

Did they pull the boats out of the water?

We have only had 3/10 so far but the yard, deck and roof is covered in Redwood needles from the winds last night plus it’s 60 degrees. Local Radar is showing lots of green and yellow surrounding Eureka and Humboldt Bay. This storm should bring lots of Salmon into the Klamath as the mouth has been sanded in for a couple of weeks.

GD, As I said in a earlier post, the smaller boats were pulled out and the commercial boats moved south 12 miles to the shelter of Humboldt Bay...

My weather center and its rain gauge died via a violent electronic death due to heat this summer.

I have no idea how much rain we have gotten since 5am, but it is still coming down hard as it has since 5 am.

Has the Texas drought finally been broken in most counties/areas?

Not even close, but it does help. Ground water is still drastically down. Way late for the farmers, almost all crops in our area were plowed under, but will help the ranchers some because there is no hay. What grows between now and the first freeze might keep them from selling all the cattle.

North Texas may be over the hump, not sure.

Right now our winds are about 25 sustained and 45 gusts but the rain is pretty moderate...(temp is 57) but I’m SURE it’s on its way from the valley. Got an update from the Modesto Bee that lots of trees toppled and lines down in that area.

The areas near the coast are prone to mudslides, which can be catastrophic.

Actually a lite rain is perfect because if it stops we will have ground fog and all flights will be canceled. United Express uses twin turbo prop planes built by Acme Aero and it is 1 hour and 15 minutes to SFO for her connecting flight to DIA. The rain has stopped and moved to the eastern parts of the county on it's merry little way to Glock’s house where it will melt all the snow in the Utah mountains...
