Mason-Dixon Shows McDonnell by 8
Washpost ^ | 10/11/09

Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, which like the Post does live interviews and not automated robocalls, is out with a poll in the Virginia governor's race. And it shows a similar spread to the Post poll last week--Republican Robert F. McDonnell over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds by eight percentage points.

Like the Post, Mason-Dixon, which was funded by the Richmond Times Dispatch and other Virginia press outlets, has McDonnell way up with independents, which will be encouraging to his campaign. The new poll shows him ahead by 15 with that group--a striking lead though not quite the 21 point gap the Post showed last week.

The Mason-Dixon poll also has McDonnell with strong leads in the Valley, Southwest, southside and Richmond and shows the race a statistical tie in the Hampton Roads area. The poll shows Deeds ahead in NoVa--51 to 42. The Post had McDonnell doing somewhat better in NoVa, with Deeds' lead at 51 to 46.)

Two other interesting distinctions between this week's poll and last--they may both come from how exactly the questions were asked by the pollsters. ...

The Post polled 2,091 adults Virginians, 1,001 of them said they were absolutely certain to vote, over Oct. 4 to 7 and the poll had a sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points. Over Oct. 6 to 8, Mason-Dixon Polling & Research interviewed by telephone 625 registered voters, all of whom said they are likely to cast ballots Nov. 3. The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points

The McDonnell support was far more evident driving north on I-81 through the Shenandoah Valley today coming home from Blacksburg and the Virginia Tech football game. Only saw one Deeds sign and no bumperstickers to multiple indications of McDonnell support.

Skimmed the rest of the article and couldn’t find the actual statewide percentage for all voters, only the breakdowns. Can you?

It’s 48 McDonnell, 40 Deeds, 12 undecided.

Thanks! That’s still a lot of undecideds, although McDonnell’s still strong with the independents.

It looks promising. The New Jersey race is more touch and go.

Thesis attack - Failed

McDonnell is Pat Roberston & Dubya - Failed

McDonnell’s transportation plan bad - Failed

McDonnell hates people with speech disabilities - Failed

McDonnell hates Sarah Palin - Failed

The WaPO and Politico’s attempts to win the race for Deeds are failing.

Granted, I’m only on the Eastern Shore and there t’ain’t too many folks over here, but based upon signage, there is far more McDonnell support than Deeds’ support. I did notice McDonnell signs in yards that last year held Obama signs, which is a good sign (no pun intended.)

SurveyUSA has McDonnell over Deeds 54-43, with very few undecideds.

It's looking good. The WaPo must be working overtime to try to swing the election to its beloved RAT.

Very true. Read a WashPo article where they were explaining that what you are talking about is widespread throughout the state. Article went on to say that McDonnell was +20 in the “enthusiasm index” which evidently does not bode well for Creed at this point.

Dang, I missed that article.

As I posted on another thread yesterday, I put my signs up Thursday and by Friday evening a number of folks asked me where I had gotten them and how they could get some.........and 3 of those people voted for Zero.

Washington Examiner: Virginia Democrats desert Deeds

Democratic candidates for Virginia's House are subtly distancing themselves from Creigh Deeds' struggling bid for governor as the top of their ticket faces mounting troubles.

While not denouncing Deeds or supporting his Republican opponent, Bob McDonnell, down-ballot Democrats are downplaying the importance of the marquee race's outcome and emphasizing themselves as self-contained candidates.

I haven’t read the article yet, but your comments make sense when I think of the ads and news stories I have seen/heard about various Hampton Roads area races. No mention of the up ticket candidates, heck I’ve heard no mention, except in Deeds’ ads with Warner, about any of the statewide office holders.

I only watch college football and haven’t seen any democrat ads there. Only one McDonnell ad one Saturday.

If it weren’t for reading the paper I would have no clue who is an R and who is a D with any of the ads, except for Deeds. Between the Bush bashing and Warner is very easy to determine he is a dork, er I mean dem :)

Heck with half the ads I can’t figure out what district the Delegate candidates are running for, they make no mention. All I know is that I haven’t seen any TV ads for any of the candidates for my district.

Silly story about my district (100th) There is this guy, who for lack of a better description is a real piece of work, who is running on the Independent ticket. He lives in the next town from me and the other day when I drove through there I passed his place. There must be 20 signs for the Republican candidate for the seat there. He’s ticked off at the town and the incumbent Dem is the town attorney. I guess he figures his followers (maybe 15) will either vote for him or the challenger thus denying the incumbent some votes. I find it highly amusing :)

Hope he siphons off mostly democrat votes in the process. Then it will be especially amusing.
