McCain Warns that Rejection of More Troops Would be "Historic" Error
Politics Daily ^ | 10/11/09 | Bruce Drake

Sen. John McCain, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, today urged President Obama to move with "deliberate speed" on a decision to increase troops in Afghanistan as his generals have requested, saying that to disregard their advice would be an "error of historic proportions."

McCain said on CNN's State of the Union that Obama should back General Stanley McChrystal's proposal for an increase of 40,000 troops and resist a "half measure" aimed at placating political opponents of deeper U.S. involvement. " McChrystal, the top general in Afghanistan, warned last month that the conflict would likely end in failure without more troops.

"To disregard the requirements that have been laid out and agreed to by Gen. (David) Petraeus and Admiral (Mike) Mullen would be an error of historic proportions," McCain said.

On CBS' Face the Nation, Senate Minority Leader Mitchell McConnell echoed McCain's view, saying "I think the smart thing to do here -- and I hope this is what the president's going to do, and if he does, I think he'll have broad support -- is to listen to General Petraeus and General McChrystal."

Juan is right - his nomination as GOP presidential candidate was a mistake, the subsequent election of Obama was a bigger mistake, and mistakes come in threes.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. McCain was an error of epic proportions, so he should know.

Juan McCain is an evil idiot. Unless they change the rules of engagement then forget it. Speak up McCain - you are also fawning over the illegal alien - your kind of people Juan.

Hussein’s goal is to humiliate the U.S. military in front of Islam.

The crappy MacNamara M-16/M4 is no better than it was in Vietnam and they are probably using cheap ammo causing it to foul. Give em AKs. The M4 is useless in Afghanistan especailly in gorges and moytains.

Obama is a god. How can he make a mistake? Besides, isn’t McCain’s role that of the aisle crosser, the bearer of olive branches and butt kisses to the enlightened lords of government solutions? How can he doubt Obama’s decisions? McCain’s crazed addiction to the limelight is about to leave him stumbling around on a pitch black stage. He won’t make it as a maverick to the One. Wise up McCain, and join in the Zero worship. Let the warm fuzzy feelings of bipartisan love warm your old bones.

Brostrom’s platoon and the other units fighting up and down the valley sometimes called in air strikes on houses from which they were taking fire.

“My son showed me that I said, you know, you just lost that village,” said David Brostrom.

“We dropped 861 bombs with few questions asked,” a senior commander is quoted as saying in a draft report for the Army Lesson’s Learned Center obtained by CBS news.

(CBS)
They also fired white phospherous artillery at what they believed was a Taliban campfire. The rounds which were never intended to be used against personnel.

“They were supposed to be protecting the population but according to the report the people “whose homes were being leveled and . . . Neighborhoods . . . Turned into battlefields . . . Saw no . . . Improvement in their lives and no real evidence of security.”
McChrystal wants to have 300,000 Afghans trained to fight on their own. He cannot do this without more US Troops, nor if the war is fought the way it was a year ago, as witnessed AT THE END of the video here. It can’t be won if they are not properly equiped, or left without support that takes an hour to arrive either. ____________ Two deadly ambushes in Afghanistan left 9 U.S. soldiers dead. Critics say the ambushes were the tragic and inevitable result of having too few troops, and as David Martin reports in this exclusive, it’s under investigation.

Naw, he and Chavez are just jealous about the prize. Anyway, it’s about time for McCain to start regretting his support for Obama in the last election.
