Lindsey faced no serious opposition, several individuals opposed him in the primary but their combined votes couldn't force Lindsey into a runoff. He pulled all of the "party faithful" and the moderates.
The Democrats didn't even field a candidate in the general election. An independent jumped into the void and ran as a (D), many of us on the right voted for him but it was futile. With the straight party Rs, the moderates and the cross-over Ds all voting for him he won in a landslide that even CNN could call one minute after 8pm.
