Hutchison campaigns for gun rights

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas — Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison went to a shooting range Friday to remind voters of her support for gun rights by pointing out her plans to weigh in on an upcoming U.S. Supreme Court case.

With gunfire popping in the background, Hutchison said she will help lead a bipartisan group from Congress in filing a legal brief urging the court to rule gun ownership is an individual right that applies at the state and local levels, in addition to the federal level.

Both Hutchison and Gov. Rick Perry, who are squaring off in the March Republican primary, say they support gun ownership rights, something dear to Texas GOP primary voters. Representatives of both candidates say they own rifles and handguns and that they are hunters.

Perry's spokesman, Mark Miner, said the governor has a Texas license to carry a concealed handgun. The senator's spokeswoman, Jennifer Baker, said Hutchison does not.

Miner said the governor has always been a strong defender of the Second Amendment, which addresses the right to bear arms.

Former Georgetown Mayor Leo Wood introduced Hutchison as a defender of the Second Amendment and the National Rifle Association.

Hutchison, starting her remarks in the gun shop at Red's Indoor Range, said, "I wish I could shoot, but it is raining ... I'm very pleased to be able to look at all these beautiful guns here."

Miner said Perry, also an NRA backer, supported the legislation allowing Texans to carry concealed handguns and in 2007 signed the state's so-called castle doctrine law allowing individuals more legal rights to shoot to kill if someone breaks into their home, car or business. It was the first bill Perry signed into law that year.

Perry also signed a law in 2007 closing off public access to records showing who has

I’m seriously thinking of casting a vote for Kinky Friedman.

Perry just keeps jacking taxes and working deals with his pals and Kay is estrogen impaired.

Sometimes I really think we just meed a benign dope smokin cowboy hat wearing, troubadour in the office L0L

I’d rather have a benign good ol boy than a political shark

Kinky Friedman

They Ain’t Makin’ Jews Like Jesus Anymore
(lyrics and music by Kinky Friedman)

Well, a redneck nerd in a bowling shirt was a-guzzlin’ Lone Star beer
Talking religion and-uh politics for all the world to hear.
“They oughta send you back to Russia, boy, or New York City one,
You just want to doodle a Christian girl and you killed God’s only son.”

I said, “Has it occurred to you, you nerd, that that’s not very nice,
We Jews believe it was Santa Claus that killed Jesus Christ!”
“You know, you don’t look Jewish,” he said, “near as I could figger
I had you lamped for a slightly anemic, well-dressed country swigger

No, they ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore,
They don’t turn the other cheek the way they done before.
He started in to shoutin’ and spittin’ on the floor,
Lord, they ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore.

Well, I hits him with everything I had right square between the eyes.
I says, “I’m gonna gitcha, you son of a bitch ya, for spoutin’ that pack of lies.
If there’s one thing I can’t abide, it’s an ethnocentric racist;
Now you take back that thing you said ’bout Aristitle Onassis.”

No, they ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore,
We don’t turn the other cheek the way we done before.
You could hear that honky holler as he hit that hardwood floor,
Lord, they ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore.

Hear the tune

2A is of the table. 1A(abortion) is off the table. Perry is off the table for a lot of folks, including Farm Bureau who are against the Trans Texas Corridor and taking of so much of Texas’ best land. See http://www.corridorwatch.org for more info. KB and Perry collectively lose so many conservative voters I am worried we may see the next jackass governor unless a solid candidate emerges. If KB would renounce abortion altogether, she would be able to garner my vote. Her Senate record has been otherwise highly conservative. Perhaps she misspoke on the issue of abortion. I will have to do some research to see if she truly supports it.

she added an amendment to a senate bill that essentially destroyed any and all funding for border fence resources (financial, staffing, security equipment, infrastructure, etc.) One could make the argument that she is responsible for a significant portion of the state’s costs to provide healthcare to illegals.

Which is why I informed her office she will NEVER get a vote from this house ever again.
