Airports To Screen Passengers For H1N1 Symptoms

New Guidelines Allow Airports To Take Temperatures, Quarantine Passengers Exhibiting Flu-Like Illness

People Traveling Internationally May Be Screened When Leaving, Entering U.S.

With the holiday season just a few weeks away, health officials fear the swine flu will pick up right along with air travel.

New government guidelines are on their way, designed to help keep passengers healthy.

This flu season, airport staff across the nation won't just be screening for security threats. They'll also be looking out for health threats – people who look like they may have the H1N1 virus.

The government says that people traveling internationally may be screened for the H1N1 virus as they leave or enter the U.S.

"It feels a little bit overboard," Stanford, Conn. resident Derek Ferguson said.

The government warns that some passengers may be asked to pass through a screening device, have their temperatures taken, answer questions about their health, and even be quarantined if someone on the flight shows symptoms of H1N1.

"I'm all for it, I really am," Mount Vernon resident Rosa Raspaldo said. "Because – guaranteed – if people are coughing on the plane, all of those germs will be spread around."

But the H1N1 virus isn't just a danger in the skies. Buses and trains can also be a breeding ground for germs. Millions of riders climb aboard every day, and that has many taking precautions.

I actually support this. My co-worker just got the virus from flying on an airplane. I think everyone on an airplane breathes the same oxygen, so if a virus gets in there...

Questions...

Where is the legal controlling authority for these detentions/quarantines???

Guidelines are not laws...

How did we manage ourselves before these hyped up crises???

36,000 people a year die from the regular flu, yet this is something extra special???

We got our regular flu shot a few weeks ago...That’s it...Why pay money for something we do not need...We are healthy, so it seems to me this is a lot to do about nothing special...

But if some want to buy into the hype...Then more power to ya...See y’all in the funny papers...

I’m just concerned that the government is once gain setting up a precident without any legal authority or mandate by the CDC to enact pandemic protocols before there is a real problem...If it is this bad then why has the CDC NOT issued their superceding authority to enact these types of protocols in mass transit and other public infrastructures???

Pretty much every airport in Asia does this.

They don’t “ask” passengers to pass through a screening device, either. They have IR thermometers set up to monitor passengers as they walk through. If you want to get to immigration/customs/baggage claim, then you pass through the screening device! No ifs, no ands, no BS. You also fill out a questionaire that asks common sense questions like “are you sick”, “do you have a fever”, “did you puke on your seatmate”.

Our asinine government, however, will no doubt take what ought to be a simple commonsense screening process and turn it into some typical liberal TSA union clusterf**k.

As if the TSA doesn’t have enough to screw up...

This will certainly create opportunities for BG’s to exploit some sort of activity we will not enjoy...

But what do I know...

I’ll be flying next month, and I dread the whole thing because of the flu. It’s especially annoying to be squeezed in those small seats next to people who are sneezing or coughing.

Even in church, our pastor is still asking us to greet people, and everyone shakes hands.

How do they know it was a virus to begin with...Who is they, and how do they know???

You have to test for this virus...Did your co-worker submit to a quarantine just so that some shlup, could force a sample to culture for a suspected case of a suspected virus or condition???

People sneeze and cough all the time...When you get off a plane the environment in there is horrible...And coming off into an environment that may have something that irritates your sinuses and throat, and you sneeze or cough as a reaction IS NOT indicative of a problem that has been hyped up by the media and governments to simply justify their existance...

If their is a real problem, then the CDC does have authority to advise the government to implement pandemic protocols that should be inacted if there is a real problem...Not one that is inacted as “guidelines” to get citizens to blindly comply and obey, ust because someone says so...

If not than people need to buck up and do things to keep themselves from coming susceptable and exposed to all sorts of things that are actually a problem...Instead of reacting to crap like this...By then it certainly is too late for some at that point...

Well, then you know what to do right???

I’d build up some healthy barriers in my body by eating better getting a lot of extra sleep, taking in a little more Vitamin C, N-A-C, gargling with Listerine, or warm salt water...

Those few things work wonders for many people, and doesn’t require much in the way of effort, or innoculations to make up for poor preparation or indoctrination...hehehe

If someone is especially draining or exhibiting signs of contagion, I would immediately ask for another seat...Or get another flight if the airlines are going to be a pain about it...They should respect your money, and your requests...

San Francisco Airport officials have authorized use of “over sized” rectal thermometers!

I was in the Philippines in early June. The hotel I was staying at was checking the temperature of everyone as they came into the hotel. This is nothing new, just new for America.

A nanny state is a nanny state. I could care less what another country does and just because they do it America should do the same? Wrong answer! This is a slippery slope, my FRiend. People can catch ANY illness walking down the street, going to work, etc. Should we have patrols on every street corner?

Common sense needs to prevail.

Yet another reason I quit flying. I’ve turned down 3 opportunities to fly internationally to check equipment that isn’t operating properly.

I won’t have some $9 per hour TSA goon with his pants around his thighs playing doctor examining me..I’ll drive anywhere in the USA I have to go..

It's the flu.

If we let them do this now, they'll do it every year.

Then they'll do it every day.
