What still hasn’t been explained are why the Afghanis are so reluctant to fight the Taliban. They seem just to want to watch as the Americans take the casualties.

Can we really impose a democracy on such a relatively primitive people?

Irrespective of how "primitive" one is, freedom is desired.

Unless you're a tyrant.

When they have daily Stadium executions for a woman being out of the house without a male relative chaperone or wearing make-up under her burkha... maybe just maybe someone will figure the US abandoned them wrongly?

Meanwhile this will be hailed as a great victory for Obama, as mass murder by the Taliban is taking place.

The aim is not to impose a democracy but a central government. The Taliban is strong only in an area that includes 40% of the total government, but that spills over in Pakistan.

As long as we act as “Liberators” and not “conquerors” democracy will never be achieved. The lessons from WWII have been forgotten. We tried to win the hearts and minds of the people in VN and we didn't succeed there. “Alexander the Great” had the right idea when it came to fighting wars.

Perhaps because they realize that our country’s military is now led by the Obamanoid, and that consequently their chances of being abandoned by the US — a la South Vietnam after Nixon’s resignation and the Demonrat ascendency in Congress — has increased significantly.

Primitive relative to what? LA? Chicago?

Who says they are reluctant? Many more Afghans have died fighting the Taliban than our own soldiers. You need to check your facts.

Can you force a cactus to grow apples by pointing a gun and/or throwing money at it?
