U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., voted against President Barack Obamas pick to head the U.S. Justice Departments civil right division. U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., voted for the nomination.
Twenty-two votes were cast against Thomas Sanchez, who was confirmed Tuesday. Republicans expressed concern about his links to some immigrant groups and the Department of Justices disposal of a voter intimidation case involving New Black Panther Party activists who stood in front of polling places on election day holding nightsticks.
Hispanic groups including the National Council of La Raza welcomed Sanchezs nomination.
McCains office did not respond to questions regarding his vote.
This is weird. I would have expected it to go the other way around. I wonder what happened to Kyl on this one.
Kyl is as bad as McCain. Ttwo stinking RINOs that need to go. McCain voted against because he is up for election in 2010.
Kyl’s been bought off. You can see it on his face over this last year.
Kyl’s been pretty hinky on the immigration issue.
