Sometimes its hard to be a man. The current recession is a case in point.
Men account for three quarters of the 7 million U.S. job losses, leading to talk of a man-cession. With male unemployment rampant, women are on the cusp of a historic breakthrough. Before the end of the year, women are likely to form a majority of salaried U.S. workers for the first time.
Government statistics show jobs held by men have declined 6.46 percent from their peak during this recession, while jobs held by women have fallen only 2.88 percent.
That translates to 4.9 million fewer men employed, compared to 1.8 million fewer women holding jobs. CNBC's Senior Economics Reporter Steve Liesman says this recession has been twice as bad for men than women and six times worse for men than the last recession in 2001.

Sounds like some feminists feel their coveted victim status might be in jeopardy
Among the people I know, it’s mainly women who have full-time jobs and men who are “consultants”. The ObamaRecession is making it more so.
My daughter has TWO jobs. She wanted to leave her full-time job for the other, but her employer begged her to stay on part-time (with health insurance!)
I told that’s what happens when you show up on time every day and do your best. Employers like that in a worker.
Ummmm, I showed up every day for work, and did my best and yet was laid off in June.
I do business with a lot of “Women Owned” businesses that get extra government assistance. Maybe it’s time to have no preferences?
Indeed.....it’s way past time for any preferences at all.
But that will not happen with this administration. White males need not apply.

What kind of jobs have been hit the hardest, Financial sector and construction, right?
I think you have a point.
Isn’t this sexism? Shouldn’t those numbers be 50/50?
More men than women have lost their jobs in this recession. When the stimulus plan was being drawn up, the “shovel ready” projects would have created more jobs for men than for women, but the feminists put pressure on Congress to modify the bill to create more jobs in fields dominated by women, so that the new jobs would go about half to men and half to women. At least there was an article 3 or 4 months ago which argued that.
Don’t forget, when a man is layed off a woman is screwed over twice as hard. Her husband is out of work, and the women who still work there have to work harder to keep up. That’s how the feminists will play it out.
NOW is irrelevant today.
Yeah, it sucks. I have the same deal with a friend of mine. Hubby works and she insists on working with two young kiddos. She got a good job at the school, but I’m worried that the job I’m competing for will go to her too, leaving her with 2 jobs + hubby’s work and me with none. :(
Don’t know what more I can do than to have my credentials and the experience for the jobs and just keep plugging away!
Puh-leez, even in NOW's weakened state, show me where men have formed a men's rights organization even remotely as effective.
That’s not what I meant.
Men act like men and think for themselves far more than the gentle and lovely ladies do. We’re leaders. We have biceps. You know what I mean?
NOW is in decline as a political force, in general.
What would the men you describe do about it?
What are men doing about it?
