Waters: 'Many members' suffer from problems like Rangel's By Michael O'Brien - 10/07/09 10:59 AM ET
"Many members" of Congress suffer from the same disclosure issues as the embattled Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.), one of his congressional allies suggested Wednesday.
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) downplayed the seriousness of allegations against Rangel that he failed to disclose sources of income and pay taxes on some properties, saying that many lawmakers suffer from innocent lapses in judgment when filing mandatory financial disclosure forms.
"I want to tell you, there are many members who, if you go back over all of their records, over all of the years, you're going to find that there were disclosures that were not made," Waters said during an appearance on MSNBC this morning.
Republicans are seeking to force Rangel from his position as chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee by offering a privileged resolution from Rep. John Carter (R-Texas) to mandate that Rangel step aside.
Waters defended Rangel, saying the Harlem congressman is making an effort to correct the records and pay his debts.
"What happens is, unfortunately with the requirements for disclosure that we all have, mistakes are made," she said. "And you do get a chance to correct them. And so it looks as if he is correcting those mistakes."
Waters said that Rangel should not step down from his chairmanship, but should continue working until ethics investigations into his finances have concluded.
A culture of corruption that stinks to the top of the DNC.
Throw the bums OUT.
If anyone should know, it would be Mad Max. Her husband has some issues to deal with...as does she.
Tom DeLay's case STILL has not been brought to trial.
voters should toss all of the u.s. congress out,
and start over.
Vox Rex, Vox Dei.
Right Maxine?
“I want to tell you, there are many members who, if you go back over all of their records, over all of the years, you’re going to find that there were disclosures that were not made,” Waters said during an appearance on MSNBC this morning.
Good, gives us names, we’ll get a bus and reserve some jail space........
Name ‘em Maxine. Name ‘em.
We're all crooks here. Why are you singling out poor old Charlie?
Who cares.
It’s the missing “disclosures” in his federal and state tax forms where Rangel has become a tax felon.
So, Maxine, “many members” of Congress are tax felons? The woman is a certifiable moron. Can you see the advertisements featuring this quote?
This will probably be the first and last time I will agree with Ms. Waters. Many members do suffer from the same thing as Rangel - DISHONESTY.
This is the reason why nothing gets done over Dem tax cheats: they all know where each others bodies are buried.
This is a veiled threat.
Maxine is saying that if they start pushing hard enough on old Charlie she and the Black Caucus will star unveiling the dirt on those doing the pushing.
The Congress and the Mafia arent all that much different.
Both are organisations made up of thieves and con artists.
Vote no incumbents.
To Ms. Waters, I say: Let’s see the details and we will judge for ourselves.
Given her district, I doubt that she ever runs opposed.
Amen Brother, she suits her district to a T.
Then she should name names instead of using vague statements.
“mistakes are made” I think we heard that one from the first black president.
