Glenn Beck just talked about all this. Van Jones is involved with Free Press as well.

". . . argues that media reform efforts must begin with 'the need to promote an understanding of the urgency to assert public control over the media.'”

Dan Rather's call to the Administration comes to mind here.

Technology has made it more difficult for this kind of thing, inasmuch as it's not just the major networks who control the news any more. The FTC's action, referred to by Beck yesterday, needs to be watched carefully, however, for it may portend future efforts to "control" media like the one we're participating in at the moment.

One of several gems from Sowell's recent "Random Thoughts." I think it applies.

"Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Muammar Qaddafi and Vladimir Putin have all praised Barack Obama. When enemies of freedom and democracy praise your president, what are you to think? When you add to this Barack Obama's many previous years of associations and alliances with people who hate America-- Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Father Pfleger, etc.-- at what point do you stop denying the obvious and start to connect the dots?"

State controlled media - the opposite of freedom.
