NFL should think twice on Rush Limbaugh (Barf Alert!)
St. Louis Post-Dispatch ^ | 10/7/09 | Bryan Burwell

Posted on 10/07/2009 7:39:44 AM PDT by oldvike

Rush Limbaugh wants to own the St. Louis Rams. Well, good for him. His money is green and plentiful and his politics are conservative, which means he'll pretty much fit right in with the rest of the gang within the NFL ownership's corridors of power.

They probably don't care about his politics. In fact, if you checked most of their campaign contributions, you'd find that most of them probably are staunch supporters of the guy who has been called "the unofficial voice of the Republican Party." With a wink and a smile, they will surely welcome him to their club, because ultimately all they care about is whether or not his check will bounce, and we all know that's highly unlikely.

They will all look the other way when it comes to Limbaugh — forgetting his polarizing racial politics, conveniently ignoring (perhaps even quietly agreeing with) all the mean-spirited divisive bile that comes along with his ample financial clout — just like many of you surely will, too. They will look the other way because of his wealth and influence. You will look the other way because to some of you, he is your politically incorrect hero, and the rest might be willing to ignore all of that just as long as he can put enough money on the table to help keep your football team in St. Louis.

I don't have that luxury.

Burwell is a leftist racist idiot. He has a column in the Past-Disgrace, and he co-hosts a sports-talk radio program. Here in St. Louis, no one really takes him seriously. His columns are not very good, and he’s rather boring and non-insightful on the radio also. The only time anyone notices him here in town is when he leads with the racist chip on his shoulder.

What does politics have to do with owning a pro football team???

Or what does owning a team have to do with politics?

The only NFL owner I know who is overtly political is Steelers owner Dan Rooney, who is a certified Obamaniac.

Nancy Pelosi and her family are season ticket holders to the 49'ers. When she became Speaker, she moved her viewing location from upper level section 39 (~40 yd. line) to the York's private box. Her family still sits in the same general area, but she and her husband sit with the York's.

You are correct, the only time anybody is talking about Burwell is when he’s kicking up racial dust. Believe me, I wasn’t going to the P-D looking for an article by the guy. I was on their website because I’m a Cards fan and was just taking a peek at the message boards.

This idiotic rant would make more sense if Rush was buying a successful franchise. Earth to Bryan, the St. Louis Rams are in Detroit Lions territory. They suck. They’re in the cellar. It’s either remain supportive of the local team or risk losing them for some other city. If the Rams don’t get their crap together in the next 5 years and start filling seats in Edward Jones Stadium, once the stadium lease runs out at the conclusion of the 2014 season, they’re free to leave town. I hear Los Angeles is itching to have an NFL franchise back into town.

Obviously the moron that wrote this didn’t hear Rooney thank the President during the Super Bowl trophy award ceremony in Feb.

I notice that Burwell didn't bother doing any investigating on the freely available online sources to see whether or not this assertion is actually true.

It took me about 15 seconds to actually look it up. Here's the numbers for the past 20 years.
