Glenn Beck: 'God Help us all' (Newsmax Video interview w/Beck)
Chicago Trib ^ | 10/6/09 | Ruddy/Beck

Posted on 10/06/2009 9:34:25 PM PDT by pissant

"What's the secret sauce?'' Glenn Beck is asked about the popularity of his FOX News Channel program in an interview with Newsmax - sort of like a Keith Olbermann interview in Ramparts.

"America is looking for someone, whether you agree or disagree, who will say the truth,'' Beck says. "Because I am a recovering alcoholic, when I hit the bottom, I promised to the Lord that, if he would take the guilt away... I would serve him... and I have done that...

"You may not agree with me,'' Beck says, but he will tell it like it is.

Why is the "Left'' hysterical about him? ("Any college kids that are watching,'' host Chris Ruddy, CEO of Newsmax Media, notes in an aside to the audience, "don't tell your professors that you watch Glenn Beck. You'll get an F.''

power will be seized and voices will be silenced. God help us all.’’

Today, while Rush was playing the SNL material on Obama and making fun of him, all his phone lines connecting him to the nation went dead. There was a few minutes go by with recordings and then he came back by means of their emergency satelite backup.
I think it was a dry run. We are in danger of power being siezed and the usual way we know things not working to be able to tell us.

“No one connects the dots as he does. No one gives insight into their reasoning as he does. He is the best journalist that I have ever seen.”

How did you feel about his assessment of George Bush:

“The shine came off of George Bush for me pretty quickly after 9/11,’’ Beck says. “I thanked God that we had somebody that strong... But then we started to not fight a war to win the war. Wars are a horrible ugly... It’s killing people. The idea is killing them faster than they can kill you... We weren’t doing that. And now we’re in this long, drawn-out war... That made me look at him and say... we’re fighting this war not to win it anymore, and I don’t know why.’’

I thought that was a little unfair. That sounds a lot like the criticism we heard of LBJ about his conduct of the Vietnam war. But LBJ didn’t listen to his generals, and Bush was doing what they advised.

I like Beck because he pisses off the right people. But, Beck seems to think he has to paint all politicians with the same broad brush - no politician is any good, Republicans and Democrats are all alike, etc. I just don’t buy it as being that simple.
I watch Beck when he has facts to reveal, ie, Czars, Acorn, Apollo Group, etc. However, I stop watching when he starts filling airspace with his doom day scenarios though he says he is an optimist or a realist.

I’m not sure. I’m going to have to say that I personally don’t know enough about war to be able to give the answer that I would like to give. I do sometimes think that America fights not to win, or something along these lines. Certainly we don’t fight as we did in WWII.

I agree with Glenn with respect to having someone as strong as Bush after 9/11. I can’t imagine what Gore would have done. War is about defeating the enemy in a crushing manner as efficiently as it can be done. War is not about winning the hearts and minds of anyone, because that sounds like a political goal, and not the goal of the military. If generals advised the president to fight the war in such a manner, then I would be surprised at that.

One thing that I do give Bush credit for is the toppling of Saddam Hussein. This one hell of a stunning achievement, something that America can truly be proud of. Hussein was a despicable, evil man, and I am glad that he is gone.

The shine of George Bush wore off for me with his domestic politics. His desire for amnesty and his bailout as well as his making Henry Paulson an unanswerable king like figure with regard to the treasury was too much for me. Bush by way of his ineptitude also paved the way for 0bama. These things I don’t know if I can forgive him for, however, I do believe he is a good person a heart, and I believe he thought that he was doing the right thing for the most part.

I agree with Glenn’s assessment mostly. I am a person who is very troubled with the GOP, very disappointed, but I intend to work to reclaim the party before I consider abandoning it. To summarize, Bush was a good man, but also a flawed man. He did things that helped America, but also things that hurt. Despite this, I still respect him.

[I started researching Barack Obama in March ‘08]

There are ton’s of stuff out there about obama and I’m sure ANYTHING that you have submitted to Rush, he has researched.

He not about to go out on the limb and declare obama an illegal alien until the information is 100% accurate.

He is number one for a reason...he can backup his information but I wouldn’t stop sending him your information, you may be surprised someday that he responds to it.

Be patient.

I agree with your observation.

Conservative leaders (not only Rush) - with the expeption of pro lifers - absolutely fell asleep at the wheel for years. Politics does not take a rest. Either we are out there with new leaders and activists pushing an agenda and message of reform and freedom or we are losing ground to the Marxists.

Absolutely correct. We had to soundly defeat the Germans and Japs before we could attempt to win their hearts and minds. Twenty years after the war's end they were among our strongest allies.

That’s the problem. People believe the crap Glenn is saying about Roosevelt. Beck just started reading history, as best as I can tell, a very few short years ago. The guy only sometimes knows what he is talking about.

I no longer send him information because the infowar is heating up.

Judge Carter in California has now set a trial date, denying Obama’a Motion to Dismiss in Barnett vs. Obama.

And Leo Donofrio is hot on the trail of Obama’s Hawaiian birth records. You see, that COLB was posted online and now the Department of Health, which maintains these vital records, cannot refuse to provide to the public the original document. This is according to the State of Hawaii’s own statutes.

Oh, yes! The infowar is getting hot!!

I, for one, am always ready to be enlightened from any source, could you please tell me some of the things you believe he has been wrong about, concerning Roosevelt?

Thanks, in advance.

Just about everything.

Here's a quote from Beck the other day.....

Beck: First of all, it's not my party, not my party. And second, he (Teddy) wasn't a conservative. The first thing he did as president was to fire off 40 lawsuits to try to trust bust and federally control large corporations. He said, he said that he, quote, had the greatest contempt for the rich. He also said, we grudge no man a fortune in civil life if it is honorably obtained and well used. It is not even enough still quoting John McCain's hero Teddy Roosevelt it is not even enough that it should have been gained without doing damage to the community. We should permit a fortune to be gained only so long as the gaining represents benefits to the community.

He was all about controlling people, how much money they made, what they did with it. That's not America. Do you want your government deciding whether your money is well used?

*******************

Don't get me wrong, TR was a flawed man who went off the poltical rails for a time (think Bullmoose platform). But Winston Churchill was also a man who vacillated his conservartism with 'progressiveism' a time or two.

But let's just examine Beck's statement that The first thing he did as president was to fire off 40 lawsuits to try to trust bust and federally control large corporations

A) That's not the first thing he did. He did it over 2 terms. By comparison, William Howard Taft - not considered a "progressive" republican, had 80 in his ONE term.

Beck says he said that he, quote, had the greatest contempt for the rich.

Here's Roosevelt's full quote: Every special interest is entitled to justice - full, fair, and complete - and, now, mind you, if there were any attempt by mob-violence to plunder and work harm to the special interest, whatever it may be, and I most dislike and the wealthy man, whomsoever he may be, for whom I have the greatest contempt, I would fight for him, and you would if you were worth your salt. He should have justice. For every special interest is entitled to justice, but not one is entitled to a vote in Congress, to a voice on the bench, or to representation in any public office. The Constitution guarantees protections to property, and we must make that promise good

Beck paraphrases TR as saying that We should permit a fortune to be gained only so long as the gaining represents benefits to the community

He never said that.

I always figured that Rush is such a BIG target of the left, that he must be dead-on accurate before he opens his mouth or they will find a way to silence him forever.

Sorry! But this like “Waiting for Godot”! There are PLENTY of **FACTS** to be reported about Obama’s eligibility! Even if they merely reported, then the facts would help their listeners to decide.

Rush, Beck, Coulter, Hannity, Boortz, OReilly, Ingram, Medved, Levine, etc. are USERS!!!!!

They **USE*** conservatives and conservative issues to make themselves RICH! They don't care a twit about the Constitution or conservatives, unless it advances them financially.

When the brown shirted jack boots march, these weenies will quickly follow behind and be pleased to be government propagandists.

The only back Rush et al is watching is HIS OWN WALLET!!!

I started researching Barack Obama in March ‘08 and began sending Rush emails containing information that was forthcoming about candidate Obama.

Please read post #58.

I did too. Rush knows about it. THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS have contacted him, and the big fat WEENIE ignores **the** most important constitutional issue since the Civil War.

In general, I believe Beck is a force for GOOD. By that I mean, he is very much pro-SMALL government, pro-INDIVIDUAL liberty. He is passionate about it and is willing to ‘fess up to his mistakes. So for me, he’s a force to be reckoned with and he does some outstanding work. I think I’ll take it on myself to see if I can correct him on the “other” evil Roosevelt and go from there, but all in all he’s doing the Lord’s work and there are not enough of us who have his kind of audience and ratings.
