The Texas Department of Transportation is pulling the last plug on the Trans-Texas Corridor, Gov. Rick Perry's embattled plan to build a toll-road network across the state.
The agency said earlier this year it was scaling down the project and dropping the name "Trans-Texas Corridor." Now, transportation officials say it's fully dead. Transportation Commissioner Bill Meadows told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram of the decision in a report posted online Tuesday.
The news comes a day after Perry's Republican primary opponent, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, secured the coveted endorsement of the powerful Texas Farm Bureau a vocal opponent of the corridor and a group that has been at odds with Perry over eminent domain and private property rights. Farmers and ranchers did not like the corridor plan because of the private land it threatened to take.

Oh, our frustrations with TXDOT go WAY back. We live 45 miles NW of San Antonio on I-10. SA has had major exchanges under construction for over 20+ years, on all sides E,W,N and S., I mean, they make sure that they’re ALL under construction, expanded, improved, pick your category. I’m talking continuous construction. Oddly enough, we’re actually seeing a couple of them being freed up (dare I say completed?).
I take secondary roads to Austin when we have to go or if to Temple for example, we take 281 and cross over through Ft. Hood. I don’t know that Waco has ever been clear of widening or whatever they’re calling it this last decade.
I see where TXDOT is going to hold MORE meetings for the input of the public, meaning: there’s more projects folks, hang on, we’re gonna get this Transcorridor thing yet!! We’ll just call it something else.
Funny, I thought all those existing roads were built (and maintained) with our TAX MONEY.
I was thinking of roads with three or more lanes on each side when I wrote that. On those multilane roads, as I understand it, truckers usually use the middle and righthand lanes (except in Texas, apparently). Of course, if you only have two lanes on each side, you’re screwed.
Those bastards!
anybody but Perry ping!
I35, when moved to Texas in 1984 they were rebuilding I35 in Hillsboro.
They are still rebuilding it. WTF? is up with that?
Someones uncle?
Never ending story
Thanks. We were wondering what they were doing since the corridor thing was zapped.
We moved to Hill county in July. You better bet we are doing a happy dance now!!!
“If I’m liberal, then, by comparison, Goldwater was a Communist... LOL!”
I’m just sayin’ if it turns out between Perry and Kay baby I’m voting for Perry as the lesser of two evils.
“Geez- check out TXnMA’s profile page before you make comments like that. While you’re at it, check out mine. I borrowed the the bumper sticker near the bottom of the page from TXnMA years ago.”
If either of you prefer Kay Baily bailout to Rick Perry, I wouldn’t call you conservative.
By the way “Geez” sounds like a yankee word to me.
I prefer neither of them, and I'm tired of "the lesser of two evils".
.
By the way Geez sounds like a yankee word to me.
Saltier forms of language would get me banned.
