As is the fact that cold war considerations aside, Nixon was likely motivated by the Egyptian betrayal after our interference in the just 1956 war, taking the Arab side against Britain, France and Israel. The worst mistake of the Eisenhower administration, per his autobiography. And per secondary sources, Ike agreed. The man had a memory, and good judgement.
