Health Care Workers Begin Receiving Flu Shots
Hospitals today began to receive the first doses of a vaccine designed to ward off a potential H1N1 flu pandemic -- this, after months of anticipation and debate over who would be the first to be vaccinated.
Le Bonheur Hospital in Memphis and Wishard Health Services in Indiana were among the very first hospitals in the nation to receive vaccines on Monday, vaccinating about 150 and 100 staffers respectively.
And though rollout was limited to healthcare workers, both said that so far, at least, the deployment of immunizations has gone smoothly. Hospitals in Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota and Chicago also reported receiving their first batches.
"This has been a shining example of no delay," said Susan Cooper, Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Health, after Le Bonheur's shipment arrived. "The vaccine has come out, it's come out a little bit earlier than expected, it hit the ground and we were able to very quickly start the immunization process, and that's something I think that we should be very proud of."
While she was not certain why Le Bonheur got the H1N1 vaccination early, Cooper said she suspected it was because the Memphis area has been particularly hard hit. More than 6,000 cases have been reported there, and more than 100 children have been hospitalized, so people in the region are more likely to seek the vaccine.
"It would make good sense, since Le Bonheur is the premier pediatric hospital in that area, it would make sense to make sure their workforce is protected," she said.
For Wishard, based in Indianapolis, it may have been a matter of good homework.
"Indiana was one of the first states selected because they were one of the first states that had their paperwork in very quickly,"

Someone needs to document any iatrogenic reactions.I suspect that if there are any adverse reactions the powers that be will do their best to limit the press coverage.
it will take months to unfold but this will be the biggest health scam ever perpetrated on the American public.
if a vaccine fails to work in 3 of 4 people, that is good enough for approval by the FDA. Protection? Don’t make me laugh.
I will not submit myself to mandatory Inoculations.
There was a time when the US produced its own vaccines. Why are we importing a product that could very easily be produced here ?
We will see, in the last swine flu scare, late 70's, more people died from the vaccine than the disease. H5N1 is of the normal genotype that we are always exposed to.

The Vaccines for Children program begun under the Clinton Administration allowed the government to move in on providing vaccines for all Medicaid patients, uninsured, Native American’s, etc. This led to manufacturers saying “screw it”, as the profits were taken away as the government dictated what they would pay.
Has anyone seen a survey on the percentage of Americans that are planning to get vaccinations? I would think that it is low but not really sure. I don’t plan on getting one and would sure not get one if government ordered.

Vaccines are dangerous, it was in the news today that American children’s autism rate is closer to 1 in 100 rather than the previous figure of 1 in 150. The 150 number came up when the 1990 vaccine craziness started, before that autism was RARE. Vaccines are a neurological nightmare, take a flu shot every year and increase greatly your odds of getting Alzheimer’s.
Agree... These flue shots are dangerous! The flue is less a problem than the shots - and the government that decides otherwise is inviting rebellion... Folks are more educated these days than in the past thanks to the internet.
No flu shot for me. I have absolutely no way to tell what is in the shot for sure and I no longer trust my government to provide me with something I can’t verify independently as safe.
An injection bypasses the immune system and challenges our body without the normal bodily defenses in place. Just too dangerous to give them that level of access to my health.
As is usually the case, the govt arrives too late to do much good. It’s probably going to be another week or more before the vaccinations arrive for the general public and the flu peaked here (Memphis) about 3 weeks ago!
