In a recent interview, the band did say "1984" was a big influence on the album, though Beck credited them with being "very into one world government of here it comes guys, better wake up."

The Left misunderstood 1984, Animal Farm, and Fahrenheit 451.

They took them as indictments of Right Wing Fascism. The Orwell books were about Stalinists in the West. And Bradbury's book was NOT a condemnation of America.
