Most people think they pay too much to Uncle Sam, but for some people it simply is not true.
In 2009, roughly 47% of households, or 71 million, will not owe any federal income tax, according to estimates by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.
Some in that group will even get additional money from the government because they qualify for refundable tax breaks.
The ranks of those whose major federal tax burdens net out at zero -- or less -- is on the rise. The center's original 2009 estimate was 38%. That was before enactment in February of the $787 billion economic recovery package, which included a host of new or expanded tax breaks.

Game over.
We’re done.
10% of that group will be named either Cabinet members or Czars.
Is this fair? The’RATS are always whining about fairness. Is this fair? Everyone should pay their fair share. That 53% of freeloaders need to get with the program and demand that they be allowed to pay federal income taxes just like the “patriotic” Americans. Paying taxes is their right!
Whoops! Turned those figures around. 47% are the freeloaders.
What is one to say about the feel goodism of a story for idiots; it was so caring, they care or I am so glad that someone else is paying my (insert your term here) share.

For me, then you should not be able to vote. Everyone should pay something. Turn off the cable for a month and spring for $50.
“47% will pay no federal income tax(CNN/Money article)”
“The ranks of those whose major federal tax burdens net out at zero — or less — is on the rise.”
Which is it?
I think this is about refunds. Everyone over the poverty mark pays something.
Like I’ve said in various threads, I don’t see any other way to get these politicians’ attention than a massive tax revolt. They don’t care a bit about the 53% paying the taxes. They only care about maintaining the votes of the 47%, so they can perpetuate themselves in power.
The solution I see solving the problem is putting these politicians on a crash diet via abolition of the federal income tax, and moving to a flat tax or national sales tax.
What’s the saying again? When there are more people riding in the cart that pulling the cart...the cart stops moving.
I for one have been ‘going John Galt’, spending very little on non-essentials and doing my damndest to spend it online or in New Hampshire where they have no sales tax. Discount and bargain shopping are my mantra...save money and enjoy the challenge while you’re at it.
And since work has slowed way down for me, I think I will be one of those contributing to the “unexpectedly low tax receipt” stories we will be reading lots about in months to come.
All they have to do to lock in power, in perpetuity, is tilt that number over 50%
Are these 47 million the same ones Obama says have no medical insurance? Is it a coincidence that the figures are the same???
It is deducted from the paycheck (assuming they’re not an illegal being paid under the table), but then they get it all back. The more babies they pop out, the bigger the “refund”.
Well, maybe, until the whole economy collapses under its own weight, and all h*11 breaks loose.
Why would these 47% ever vote for anyone but a democrat? My guess is that they will try to get this to over 50% don’t pay taxes.
What a scam!
When the taxpayers finally agree to no longer involuntarily support the tax recipients, it will be over - for them. Courage sometimes results from pain that is no longer tolerable.
Lets see..... state run media, any one believing this crap? Gee, if CNN said it it must be true, somehow I don’t hear myself saying this! The trust was never thier for these shills and niether is it thier for most in Washington. I’m sick and tired of them all!
