[history]
Those who read the New York Times's coverage of the unsuccessful results of Barack and Michelle Obama's attempt to seal the 2016 Summer Olympics bid for Chicago on Friday afternoon ('For Obama, an Unsuccessful Campaign") might want to read it again.
If it doesn't seem the same, it's because it isn't.
Blogger Weasel Zippers (HT Hot Air Headlines via Instapundit) caught the Times committing a major scrub of the story. But it's really worse than that.
An excerpt of the item's first five paragraphs posted at FreeRepublic at 4:44 Eastern Time on October 2 shows that the article was apparently originally published under the same title with Peter Baker's byline Friday sometime Friday afternoon.
Excerpt

Exactly! I emailed that company
Geoeye (they did that big high res poster of the crowd from YOU LIE!'s inauguration) asking if they would be publishing a pic of DC from that day and actually got an email back. Said, oh, shucky darn, on Sept. 12th we didn't have the satellite camera pointed anywhere near Washington D.C., darn the luck! Yeah, right. The most important city in the world, you'd think they'd have 24/7 coverage.
Yet, surprisingly, they DID cover a UN event in Paris featured on their website. Things that make you go hmmm....

There really is no point in even mentioning this yellow propaganda rag ever again. There have just been too many of these kinds of events involving the NYT. They should simply be knocked off the radar scopes. The NYT is full of back-bencher hacks that have no business calling themselves “journalists.” The best thing to do is to forget about them altogether.

As usual their attitude is to deny reality, evade the consequences, because of one or two things. They have every confidence that the 2010 elections can be rigged in their favor... Ding, ding, ding.
We have a winner. They believe that they can still count on Acorn (one of the branches or a renamed makeover), SEIU, and their other thugs to manipulate the ballots to crete their desired outcome.
I have 0 (zero) confidence in any electoral process that affects federal elections. Just like the politicians skimming a million here or a milltion there off of the trillions in federal spending (i.e. Charlie Rangel), millions of votes can easily be manufactured in the Democrat controlled hell holes we call cities in this country.

Yes, and the copyright restrictions put on Free Republic and other sites don't allow us to archive the original articles. Articles can be changed and we can't prove that they were changed because of threats of future lawsuits. You should download and install PDF Creator. Open source software which allows you to create PDFs from web pages, word docs or whatever (it works just like a printer driver).
That, used with sites such as docstoc or Wikileaks can make sure that subtle changes like reported in this article are exposed to their fullest extent!

Steelfish's post #8:
As the one who first posted this article in Free Republic, I am stunned and appalled. If there was ever a doubt of the NYT being part of the Obama-run state media, this is proof positive.
I wish Rush, Beck, Hannity will expose this to the fullest. Please request moderator to post this as part of the sidebar. The First Amendments Freedom of the Press being destroyed by the Press.
Great work, Steelfish!

The Obama Administration proves once again what a bunch of crybabies they are. I read the NYT original article and it was still a major suck-up to Obama (and took swipes at Bush). Apparently, not enough to suit Obama though.

I have to think there is a major copyright fair use exception lurking in there... Therefore, web sites like FreeRepublic that post and comment on the news are actually performing an important public service under the electronic model by capturing before versions and reporting on the effort of some news sources to obscure the record. That raises an interesting question: If the original news source changes the on-line only copy of a story such that the original is not recognizable, then does it continue to "own" the rights to it? How do they claim "fair use" of a story they don't even recognize as theirs?

I just asked this question as a reply to another post: If the original news source changes the on-line only copy of a story such that the original is not recognizable, then does it continue to "own" the rights to it? How do they claim "fair use" of a story they don't even recognize as theirs anymore?
