I don’t know if you had an opportunity to view or read the transcript of the Obamas’ presentations to the IOC, but they were an embarrassment in so many different ways, not the least of which was Obama again demeaning his own country. And of course, both Obama and his wife had to make it all about themselves.

Michelle waxed on about sitting on her Dad’s lap as Carl Lewis competed in the olympics.

Of course Michelle would have been 21 at the time and odd age to be sitting on Daddy’s lap, especially since the poor guy had Multiple Sclerosis.

Yes, I did view them. If ever "vicarious embarassment" was an apt description, that is how I felt. (One of the reasons I hated "I Love Lucy"; when she would do something mortifying like lowering herself by a rope from a balcony to meet a movie star, I just cringed. LOL!)

Those speeches were so bad I felt like I was watching a Saturday Night Live parody.

In contrast, Pele was so proud of Brazil he said "I love my country. I would die for my country." Lula talked about the HONOR of hosting the games and how South America wanted to be in the Olympic family and how wonderful the games would be in Rio.

I would also like to add that despite how much Michelle and Oprah think they are queens, their rude and arrogant behavior and overly glittery dressing contrasted very poorly with the understated dress, courtesy and graciousness of people such as Queen Margarethe of Denmark and Prince Albert of Monaco.

If the government wants to save some money, they could furlough the State Department protocol people, since the Obamas obviously never listen to them anyway.

%%%%%

Plus 0 was doing his Wimbledon impersonation of swiveling between teleprompters.

How many people on this thread think that President Bush would do anything as crass and ice cold as try to sell his hometown without looking at his audience? 0 could not even speak from the heart about something so ‘important’ as to justify a trip of a POTUS and retinue across the Atlantic.

Even though the speech was about “I” and “me”, he had to READ IT. Wassup wit’ dat? He has delegated the recitation of his personal feelings and experiences to his writers.
