The liberal political organizing group ACORN, battered by the release of embarrassing videos and allegations of financial mismanagement and fraud, has also been losing support from several major foundations.
The Ford Foundation, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Marguerite Casey Foundation and Bank of America have stopped funding the group and its affiliates over the past year and a half.
The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, a network that helps low-income families with housing, voter registration and other issues, receives about 10 percent of its $25 million annual budget from federal grants, according to Brian Kettenring, deputy director of national operations. The rest comes from foundations, membership dues and private donations.
The Annie E. Casey Foundation stopped making grants to ACORN in early 2009, according to spokeswoman Sue Lin Chong. The Casey foundation gave an average of $270,000 a year to ACORN. The foundation saw good results from the grants and believes the funding was used appropriately, according to Cho.
The Ford Foundation, which has given nearly $2 million, suspended funding for ACORN and its affiliate organizations about a year ago because of concerns about inadequate financial controls and procedures, according to spokeswoman Fiona R. Guthrie.

FReep mail me if you want on/off the list.
When will that guy start losing funding?
GOOD!
If the Washington ComPost reports it I’m naturally suspicious. It could be a smokescreen mea culpa to get the light & heat off of them while still raking in money through a number of back doors.
Note the Ford Foundation as most have been taken over by libtards. Conservative have real jobs.
Oh My.
Good haPPens.
bttt..Thank-you Breitbart, Hannah, James and Glenn!
Henry Ford must be spinning in his grave.
Better pass ACORN a lube gun while it’s under all those buses.
Not to worry—ossama obammy will take care of his vote getting machine!! WITH OUR MONEY
It demonstrates how slip-shod these big foundations are.
They will probably fund their front groups directly
Another case of an organization that looked great on paper (hey, we help the poor!) but stank in real life.
I wonder how many of the foundations gave grants as a result of extortion, whether overt or covert. Now that ACORN has been exposed for the corrupt entity that it is, the charities have been granted cover should they not wish to continue with their support.
And none of them were good stewards of their Foundation’s money. What was it exactly that blinded them to what was really the agenda behind these groups.
I can tell you firsthand that I have had to review ACORN grants for a religious organization and, never having even heard of ACORN before, upon reading the grant request I understood immediately what the agenda was - it was a front operation for Democrat liberal political organizations under the disguise of seeking to reform societal structures to eliminate poverty. The only poverty they were eliminating that I could see was their own.
Their “community organizing” was campaign Obama and any other left wing democrat politican. We denied their grant request before any of this recent scandal ever hit the airwaves. Thank God for people like Glenn Beck who have alerted us to these frauds operating in the Democrat party.
And to think none of this was important enough to report on just weeks ago.
How about two big ones?
The TIDES FOUNDATION!
OBAMA’S PERSONAL SNAKEOIL THUGOCRACY!
I for one believe you have a very good point. The more EXPOSURE of ACORN’s nefarious practice, the more freedom for their victims, of which effects us all one way or another.
