As Catholics, we are allowed to judge institutions such as the Mormon faith. We are forbidden, however, from judging the eternal destination of individuals. There are no doubt many Mormons who are saved by Christ and who will be in Heaven with Him. The Mormon faith itself, however, is a non-Christian religion.
This thread is based upon a news story about Elizabeth Smart and the rapist who kidnapped her, not a story on the Mormon religion.
I think that he was a Mormon Priest that went crazy.
Makes me think of several passages...
1 Timothy 4:1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,
4:2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,
4:3 men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods, which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
2 Timothy 2:25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,
Psalms 119:160 The sum of Thy word is truth, And every one of Thy righteous ordinances is everlasting.
The truth is in the Word of God and available to everyone to read. Many times on FR, it seems to be analagous to a Shiite and a Sunni arguing over which one of them is following the correct religious path.
