Letterman Extortion Case Raises Questions for CBS
BILL CARTER and BRIAN STELTER October 2, 2009 If this happened to anyone else, it would just be a punch line.
David Letterman, who built his career skewering philandering politicians and show business weasels and boneheads, finds himself in the middle of his own celebrity scandal, after he admitted having multiple affairs with employees of his production company, Worldwide Pants.
For the intensely private Mr. Letterman, the revelations, which resulted from a bizarre extortion attempt, are sure to be extremely embarrassing, especially as he tries to extend his lead in the late-night contest. I have had sex with women who work for me on this show, he told his audience on Thursday night, calling himself creepy. He added that he hoped to protect my job.
More seriously, they raised questions for both his company and CBS about whether his actions constituted sexual harassment or at least abuse of a power relationship over employees.
A central figure in the case one of the women who did have a sexual relationship with Mr. Letterman, according to representatives of the show is Mr. Lettermans longtime personal assistant, Stephanie Birkitt, who also often appeared on the air. The sexual relationships had ended before Mr. Letterman was married in March, a Worldwide Pants executive said.

My understanding that this issue was tossed out after Bill Clinton and Monica.
I agree He admitted to multiple relationships.
Fire the bastard!
Many corporate leaders have been fired for “fishing off the company dock” so why not Letterman? There are federal and state laws and regulations that prohibit those who exert power and influence over employees who then take advantage of others in the workplace. But liberals are different, eh?
LOL, Letterman is the victim. How pathetic of the MSM to cover their horneyboy.
LOL Good point.
Makes to much money for the network never happen.
is lettermans sex life really new????????
It’s not like it was sex sex </s>
I have never understood his longevity. He is not funny and he abuses his guests. What is his appeal?
Letterman should be fired on general principles. His broad range of disgusting commentary, personal attacks and slander, and now this revelation. But of course, liberals have different standards of behavior than do decent Americans.
Sounds like he needs to keep his worldwide pants on.
Typical liberal.
Aside from the legal ramifications the whole Letterman episode is a stark reminder of how sick and degenerate our society has become when a man makes jokes about his serial affairs with employees on national TV and his audience laughs and applauds him. It reminds me of some things I read in Gibbon’s “Decline and Fall...”
Dittos/
He slandered Sarah as immoral while he is the one who is a sick sex maniac.
Here he admits it and the audience laughs and gives him a round of applause. What is creep. Watch this:
You couldn’t have put it better. This is the audience both in the studio and at home that gives him the ratings that makes him earn $32m a year and then use his perch to root for 0 and viciously lambaste Palin and her family. This is the worst piece of public TV scum and and if CBS has an ounce of respect for its audience would fire him.
He's certainly no candidate for husband or father of the year.
His network probably applauds the additional publicity this is bringing them (drawing in cultlike libtards who want him to crack jokes about his infidelity and immoral behavior for them to emulate).
Ah, wonderful karma. Smarmy creep doesn’t begin to describe him.
Were these women pressured to succumb? Possibly promotions or keeping their jobs?
