New orders to U.S. factories fell in August by the largest amount in five months, as American manufacturers struggle to emerge from the recession.
The Commerce Department said Friday that demand for manufactured goods dropped 0.8 percent, much worse than the 0.7 percent gain that economists had expected. The August decline reflected plunging demand for commercial aircraft, a category that surged in July.

Drink chits?
Couldn't we just give ourselves drunk chicks? Please?
Here’s U6 going back to 94. In that time span, the best numbers were 98-00. GWB had decent numbers his first few months. After that, he was above 8% for all but one month (7.9)

I don’t even have a converter box. I’m pretty sure the reception where I live sucks. And anyway, I wanted a clean break.
They spend trillions even when they do tax cuts. Until spending is under control, we’re screwed either way.
we did the clean break for a month prior to getting the converter boxes. It was sweet. Now we watch a few shows during the week (hubby is a big NCIS fan) and I like hells kitchen and Flash forward. I watch my local 10 pm news and I am a simpsons addict. other than that, I don’t feel as though I am missing a thing, except Glenn Beck, which I watch on hulu or blinko when I want to.
“Unexpectedly”? Do these people live in the real world?
My wife likes The Office, which she can watch on Hulu. I don’t like any of it, and don’t miss any of it. It was just a useless time-sucking, life-stealing bad habit.
Perhaps consumers and businesses are seeing and fearing the actual effects of...
- - Minimum wage increase (real consequences of)
- - Cap and Tax (fear of)
- - Healthcare mandates (fear of)
- - Observing government takeovers of everything within reach
- - Sensing a palpable hostility toward American business, producers, initiative, risk
- - And observing a perverse love of obscene debt and unmasked zeal to yoke generations of Americans to debtor status
- - And sensing a dark, and unmentionable application of the Chicago...er, uh..."family" way of persuasion, and worried that it will spread.
and...- -
A disbelief at the administration's horrific ignorance of just where money comes from (it's a Keynes thing)
"...and you aint seen nuthin yet..."

I have engaged in two drinking games in my adult life, and both had deleterious effects on my body.
The first was a drinking game at a disco near Kiel 30 years ago. I stopped counting after a gallon of Holsten Pils and 15 shots of Jagermeister...or maybe I just lost track.
The second was last year, when I had a beer every time John McCain said "my friends".
The hangover after the second game was far worse than the hangover after the first.
When I awoke the day after the first game, all I suffered from was a bit of alcohol poisoning and no desire to eat, and had to pass on home-made sauerbraten.
We're all suffering, and will continue to suffer, as the country is feeling the deleterious effects of Barack Hussein Obama as TOTUS.
In my view, Obama is a symptom, not the disease. It’s even worse than we think.
Talk about banal drivel.
Question isn't why're they tanking? It's why's it taken so long.
I think they know. I think they do not care. Its all spin.
And I think you're absolutely correct. LOL
Weird as hell.
"Its all spin."
Sure, as usual and always for the Associated Quislings it's the SOS all over again.
Only in their case I submit the term "spin" be changed to something more accurate, more descriptive of their predicament.
Like say, cork screwing? LOL
sounds pretty accurate
Tomorrow's headline: "Hope and Change UNEXPECTEDLY don't work out."
Yes and the job losses were “more than expected for Sept” also, in fact they were higher than in Aug, unexpectedly of course.
