No special treatment for Polanski: Schwarzenegger
Reuters ^ | Oct 1, 2009 | Jill Serjeant

Polanski, who has dual French and Polish nationality, fled the United States in 1978 after pleading guilty in a California court to unlawful sex with a minor. He served 42 days in a prison, but left the country when he believed a judge would sentence him to years behind bars despite having made a plea agreement for time already served.

His lawyers have said he will fight extradition.

Schwarzenegger, the former "Terminator" action star who swapped Hollywood movie-making for politics in 2003, said he admired Polanski's work.

He told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in an interview; "It doesn't matter if you are a big-time movie actor or a big-time movie director or producer. I think that he is a very respected person, and I am a big admirer of his work.

"But nevertheless, I think he should be treated like everyone else. And one should look into all of the allegations, not only his allegations but the allegations about his case. Was there something done wrong? You know, was injustice done in the case?"

Lawyers for Polanski sought and failed earlier this year to have the case against him dismissed because of alleged judicial misconduct in 1977. A Los Angeles judge ruled that Polanski would first have to return to California before he would consider a dismissal of the 1977 charges.

The tide is turning against Polanski. His Hollywood and Euro-elite cohorts are jumpling ship because they have been receiving mail running 20:1 against letting Polanski go free.

The elites are afraid of being hurt where it counts...at the box office. Threats to boycott their films, shows, music can work wonders

I was surprised that the Hollywood idiots were so vocal and signing petitions calling for freeing Polanski from jail.

And Whoopi said it wasn’t “rape rape”. Apparently a case of rape is only serious if you say the word twice.

I can’t believe the utter lack of common sense and how out of touch the Hollywood idiots are. Debra Winger saying that his arrest somehow threatens artistic freedom???? Somebody else said how his arrest for a long ago mistake is an affront to a man of such achievement?? His achievements are making movies? Being a brilliant producer/director dude cancels out any wrongdoing you have done???????

And few are talking about the fact that he fled the country rather than face sentencing for his plea bargained guilty plea to the lesser charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. Those charges of fleeing to avoid justice are serious charges too. His utter lack of respect for our country and our legal system is appalling. As is his physical force (yes Whoopi, it was rape rape) against a girl.

This is good news. Considering Arnold’s ties to the film industry, I was a bit worried.

The guy who raped Elizabeth Smart daily needs to film a jailhouse second sequel to Chinatown real quick. All will be forgiven.

Am I the only person who wishes that the Chinese would take over our judicial system for a while and deal out the punishments these idiots deserve?

>Debra Winger saying that his arrest somehow threatens artistic freedom????

"Artistic freedom" is a code word for "the institution of the Hollywood casting couch."

>Being a brilliant producer/director dude cancels out any wrongdoing you have done?

I guess so. The judge in 1978 let him go to Tahiti and finish his Very Important Movie, giving him the chance to flee to the safety of France. (What double standard?)

>Those charges of fleeing to avoid justice are serious charges too. His utter lack of respect for our country and our legal system is appalling.

It must be nice to have a couple of backup nationalities, so when you run into some trouble with uptight Puritan Americans, you can just escape to your Motherland.

I remain wary about the prospects that Polanski will do major time for what he’s done. Victor Salva (horror film director) molested a 12-year old boy and made child pornography from the acts. Salva only did 15 months for multiple felony convictions, and after a few years was directing again for major studios (including Disney).

If a relative nobody like Salva received such light treatment, I wonder what will happen with Polanski (assuming he is extradited and goes to trial)? I’m sure the defense would trot out his age, his past tragic history, yadda yadda.

IMHO, a conviction that involves no jail time, house arrest, or just a few months prison time is arguably worse than if he had remained a fugitive. He’d end up being guilty as sin and free as a bird, so to speak.

Hog tie the swine and make him fess up how many more little girls he has raped since 1977?

Wouldn’t it be interesting if he went to trial, was sent to prison and came face to face with Manson?

Two people in my family were raped, one hadn’t even reached puberty, the other was elderly and has since passed away. The young woman was destroyed by the experience, her mind is shattered. She wanders through life in misery. We can’t get her to go get help. The good news is somehow, in spite of herself, there’s a man that loves her with all his heart.

The left is despicable, one writer saying it might have been a good thing for Teddy K’s political career after killing Mary Jo, now these people are fighting for Polanski. If democrats keep gaining power and trashing the law there’s only more of this vile nonsense to come.

You said rape twice.

Kudos to Kristie Alley for calling out the Hollyweird types on their “kiddie gloves” (pardon the pun) treatment of Polanski.

Kristie Alley deserves some appreciative E-mails of support for her stand against the sicko weirdo types in Hoollyweird.

Thanks Kristie!

How sad that one cannot be certain that the Republican Governor of Kalifornia would come out against an admitted rapist of a 13-year-old girl.
