Obama, the Olympics and other international games
Cleveland.com ^ | Kevin O'Brien

It's ever more widely and correctly perceived that President Barack Obama has bitten off more than he can chew. -

-SNIP-

He wanted to remake America, and on Jan. 20, he hit the ground running.

There was a health care system to be nationalized, a financial system to regulate into rigor mortis, automobile manufacturing companies to take over, an intelligence apparatus to wreck, a bureaucracy to expand, private wealth to redistribute, crushing national debt to grow for future generations to enjoy and hundreds of millions of lives to get the federal government involved in, because -- let's face it -- Americans simply were not managing them satisfactorily on their own.

Our commanding general in Afghanistan keeps sending up distress flares, Iran is working feverishly toward nuclear weapons and the missiles to deliver them, the North Koreans are working overtime to make themselves relevant by making themselves dangerous, the Russians are casting lustful glances at nations that used to be their satellites and selling anti-aircraft systems to Iran, the Poles and the Czechs are smarting from our pulling the rug out from under them on missile defense, Hugo Chavez is making nonstop mischief in South America, Mexico is reclaiming the American Southwest via illegal immigration, and China is rapidly building economic and military strength -- not that Americans should feel in any way threatened by that.

-SNIP-

Amid such tumult, the course of the leader of the free world couldn't be more clear: Get the 2016 Olympics for Chicago.

Why?

Because, as he told Bloomberg News, "the track and field stadium, if we got the Olympics here in the United States, would actually be about three blocks from my house, so I could walk over and watch."

Hard to argue with that.

So Obama is going to Copenhagen to imbue his hometown's application for the games with the full intensity of his coolness. And perhaps to remind the International Olympic Committee that if it rejects his personal appeal, Jimmy Carter stands ready to brand every member a racist.

-SNIP-

If Barack Obama is the president and Hillary Clinton is the secretary of state, how is it that Scarlett O'Hara is making our foreign policy? "I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow."

-SNIP-

His unprecedented, in-person presidential lobbying of the IOC is less about winning Chicago the Olympics than about winning a quick, easy victory for himself.

I hope he succeeds, because that would indicate that someone, somewhere in the world may consider him more than just a well-spoken doormat.

Why should HITLER be the only one with his own personal Olympics?

You do know that Hitler wasn’t even in power when Berlin was awarded the 36 Games.

I am missing your point.
is it that even Bush was for the bid as if somehow that makes what odumbo is doing ok?

Are you trying to equate Bush making a comment to odumbo and manchelle going there when we know odumbo cronies will get major benefits from the olympics?

if you were being sarcastic , sorry I missed that

Chicago was chosen to be the US representative before Obama was even in the Senate. I chose to think it is pure coincidence that now he just so happens to be in the WH.

I think going after this particular issue is a loser. There are much bigger fish to fry.

Yup, it's all about him feeling good about himself. It shows just how fragile his ego is.

The issue is all the odumbo supporters lined up to benefit, at the expense of American Taxpayers.
are you ok with that?
for instance Valerie Jarrett spearheaded low rent housing projects, that were declared unsafe and need to be torn down
NOW jarrett is on odumbo Olympic committee and is asking for HUD funds to tear down her failure ( even tho she msde money building the failures) and build olumpic Housing.

sorry odumbo needs to pretend to care about the problems going on in what is supposed to be his country.

Absolutely! The King Obama machine cannot be stopped. Even if we take back the Congress in 2010, nothing will stop this ego maniac from touring the world. He is constantly on vacation and America means nothing to him. Currently his cronies make the bills, passes the bills, and rapes America.

well there are millions who want this stopped and I hope, really hope enough people who voted for him are waking up.

We, the People, must continue to make sure we are heard. This summer was a good start but it can not die down

I don’t know, but the Plain Dealer (our liberal and only newspaper) was in a real tizzy about how wonderful this will be. My question is “for who?”

Those involved in building the venues will make out like bandits and much will be no bid contracts.
Lots of graft and kickbacks to be had.

Who expects to be retired with a lot of free time in 2016?
