Clearer Rules Urged For Asylum Seekers

Women seeking political asylum in the United States based on gender-related persecution can get mired in a legal labyrinth that can leave their cases unresolved for years, according to a report being released Thursday by the Tahirih Justice Center, a nonprofit group in Falls Church that works to protect immigrant women...from violence. The center..is calling for congressional legislation or regulatory action to clarify the status of women fleeing their home countries to escape gender-specific dangers, such as forced marriage, genital mutilation, honor killings and domestic violence...

Until the system changes, advocates say, there will be more cases such as the one involving a 23-year-old victim of domestic violence from Honduras. The woman, who lives in Frederick, has strong evidence that she was beaten and stabbed by the man she was living with, a Honduran police officer. The woman's lawyers have compiled a thick case file that includes hospital photographs of her (injuries.)...

In September the woman learned that an immigration judge had refused to grant her political asylum and the benefits that come with it: monetary and medical assistance, job placement and English-language classes. Instead, she was given a more limited Convention Against Torture protection, allowing her to live and work in the United States as long as the threat in Honduras exists.

Victims of domestic violence seeking asylum must prove they would not be safe in their country. Applicants also must be a member of a persecuted race, religion, nationality, political opinion or social group, for example, women in a country where gender-specific violence is tolerated.

In the case of the Honduran woman, "the judge said the domestic violence was not on account of membership in a particular social group..."

The woman is appealing the decision, which her supporters say illustrates the system's shortcomings....

Seems to me that a rule granting automatic asylum to all women fleeing their home countries to escape "gender-specific dangers, such as forced marriage, genital mutilation, honor killings and domestic violence" would allow the entire female population of the Muslim world to enter the U.S. on a free pass, and receive, courtesy of the taxpayers, "the benefits that come with asylum: monetary and medical assistance, job placement and English-language classes." Further, the Honduran woman in question is already legally here, and safe, and this is more about her qualifying for benefits rather than fearing for her life.

Further more, if domestic violence is made a no-questions-asked basis for asylum, all any family would have to do to go to the head of the legal immigration line would be to arrange "proof" of abuse so the woman could be granted asylum, wait until the dust clears and then petition to have her husband join her as part of the "family reunification" policy. And, in fact, that is already happening.

I believe in the Roosevelt solution.

Stop all immigration for five years.

Thanks for the headsup, Lydia.

An immigration judge refused to grant the "persecuted" Honduran woman "political asylum" and the monetary benefits that come with it.

ANALYSIS Corrupt Third World govts are coaching their citizens to whine about "persecution" to seek "asylum" in the US.......b/c they know that gets illegals $1000 Soc/Sec checks (even though they have not contributed one red cent to SS).

These govts also want amnesty b/c the millions of Hispanics tied economically, politically and linguistically to The Third World allows their govts to exert enormous influence over US fiscal policy. That means (1) extorting US taxpayers of billions in foreign aid.....and, (2) the US gravy train for its citizens (which is shipped back to homelands for personal use when they return).

CASE IN POINT The bogus Mexican "drug war" is creating a new class of illegal connivers....."persecuted refugees" seeking "asylum" in the US.

BACKSTORY Social Security's "persecution" classification was once reserved for those claiming religious or political persecution. Now the Mexican govt is coaching its citizens to pour into the US, whining about "persecution from abusive spouses, and from drug wars". Some of these whiners are wealthy people , squatting on US soil, intent on draining the US treasury.

THE RIPOFF UP CLOSE Social Security provides outrageous government financial aid to "refugees" claiming "persecution." These people never paid a dime into the SS system; yet, they can collect seven years straight...... and can get extended payments if they are politically well-connected. The SS checks can amount to $1000 a month, and more. The category was created for those coming from eastern Europe and other Soviet satellite countries circa WW II....and they're STILL collecting. Just another way these connivers drain the US Treasury.

ACTION NOW Call your reps and demand these payments and the "persecuted refugee" classification be stopped. Call Congress 202-224-3121.
