Washington Governor Chris Gregoire appears to be softening her stance on raising taxes. Gregoire said today that her door is open to lawmakers and advocates who want to make the case for a tax package this January. Olympia Correspondent Austin Jenkins reports.
A year ago when Gregoire was running for re-election this was how she responded to questions about higher taxes to offset budget cuts.
Gregoire: Now is not the time and I mean now meaning period not the time to consider raising anything.
4.5 billion dollars in cuts later and with the state facing yet another billion dollar hole this is what Gregoire is telling reporters now.
Gregoire: I didnt want revenue last year because I couldnt figure out how you could you do a revenue package that wouldnt hurt the economy either individuals or businesses. Im still stuck in that rut. But Ive told the leadership come make your case.
The Governor has already heard one proposal from the state hospital association. And she says there are those who still support a temporary increase in the state sales tax to ward off further cuts.

But that now is not this now so now means nothing, Period!!
I gotta quit posting so late.
temporary? yeah, right
When the state takes your money it's in the form of taxes. Call it a "tax package" not a "revenue package".
With the whole thing of stealing the election from Rossi, has anyone started looking into ACORN in King County by any chance?
She misspoke. She meant to say “investment”.
LOL, WA, The Stuck on Stupid state. The electorate just never seems to learn. Back when the gas tax was up for a vote they scared voters into believing none of the current road projects would be finished and no new ones started. Now its this. To be fair I think this is mostly a W WA problem.
She is trying to chase all the taxpayers out of this state.
Boeing is leaving. Who’s next?
She? I think not the problem is rightly placed at the feet of the electorate. The governor and senate/house didn’t happen in a vacuum, they were voted in.
Watch Gregoire’s thin, hard, kiniving lips.
