H1-b is mostly a scam, seen it first hand. In many cases it’s been dreadfully abused & exploitive of the visa holders.

Unscrupulous companies are now setting up shop in the US and then (ab)using the L-1 to bring in people for “training” but in fact contracting them out as low paid help.

And, if you are brought in by an unscrupulous company (managed by another immigrant who has figured out he can import his corrupt 3rd world business practices into the premier 1st world economy) you may have to pay a cash kickback to your employer. This is done under the implied threat that you will be exposed for being paid less than prevailing wage and will be shipped back to Corruptistan.

I know to whom this happened.

Another immigrant works for no pay as a physician. I believe it is because his employer knows he won’t leave NYC where he is near his mother and has status as an employed person that enables him to stay in the US.

There are some very bad people out there taking advantage of Americans, immigrants, and the welcoming kindness and naivete of the American people.
