As newly weds, they had a flight training assignment not far from where I live on Grosse Ile, MI, at the Grosse Ile Naval Air Station. Here's a picture of the GINAS, from the air.
I have a dear friend, that in the early '40s was active with the USO at GINAS and clearly remembers playing bridge with Barbara Bush, the wife of a young officer here for carrier training at the big circle in the middle of the airport, something called an "aerodrome", where they'd line up a "make shift" carrier deck for take off and landing drills. She remembers BB as a very nice and friendly young lady and great bridge player.
Do not land in the pattern wrong, and overfly the Canadian Airspace, the FEDS will send the Predators out after you.
BTW.....
Their is a public beach not far from that anchor. Younger and Bolder I swam in it's 59 degree water after about a 4 mile run to get their....
My mother had that hair style.
Seeing a photo like that reminds me of my desire to turn back the clock on so many things....... er, except the computer, widescreen color tv, my AR, well, and a few other things, but I love the history of that time.
Wow. BB was - and still is a beauty.
