It was just funny to me because this had already changed his mind about the guy - he didn't say "He is a nice guy and a good father" or anything like that - it was already in the past tense and the determination made that this man had made a wrong assumption about him.
I was surprised to learn that in Texas you still have to obtain a legal divorce even if you are just shacked up - too funny.
