10 foot tsunami also hit Samoa: http://news.bnonews.com/upti less than a minute ago
Looks like some decent sized aftershocks in the 5.6 - 6.0 range too.

all the fones have just crashed,
We are relieved to hear your family is ok.
I know New Zealand is on tsumami watch too
are you on south coast of Australia?
Are we about an hour into this now?
I know reports are sketchy but I heard 20 and 32 foot waves hit.
That’s only about 10 feet off the 2004 one.
The reports here are looking worse....
not funny.
I was switching around the channels when the news broke and caught David Schuster on MSNBC saying that ‘people will be glad to hear that the waves are so small’(paraphrase). The expert he was talking to had to straighten his stupidity out by pointing out what 4 meters was and how tsunami’s come in seperate waves, build upon each other and how dangerous this situation actually was. I couldn’t believe how irresponsible the little queenie boy was being. That channel is truly the pits in every way.
6:48 am local Samoa time- so about 2 hours and change? Or is my math off...
Due to start hitting the NEW ZEALAND EAST CAPE at 2044Z, 15 minutes from now.
Pappetee in French Polynesia at 2045Z...
Cell phones? Land lines?
wife just reported radio saying north coast resorts hit cars washed out most fones from that area are down and cant get information, emergency in Apia still effective
Schuster hits every button I have- I detest him.
How does a fool like this have a job?
* URGENT — New tsunami warnings and watches issued as threat from deadly Pacific earthquake continues: http://news.bnonews.com/upti less than a minute ago
Pacific Tsunami warning center has it hitting the East Cape of New Zealand in about 10 minutes or so.
A witness told Radio New Zealand that villages on the south-east coast of Samoa’s Upolu had been flattened by the earthquake and that police were moving people to higher ground. It also said that a 10 foot (3 meter) tsunami struck its coast, a spokeswoman for the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center was not immediately able to confirm that.
Shaking near the epicenter reportedly lasted up to three minutes.
A number of aftershocks also hit the area after the initial earthquake. “We are seeing a lot of activity in the area,” a spokesman for the United States Geological Survey said, who also warned that more stronger aftershocks should be expected. So far, three moderate earthquakes have been recorded with preliminary magnitudes of 5.6, 5.6 and 5.8.
That is a very helpful pic. Thanks for posting.
They were saying earlier it was just 10 feet, which while bad....is pretty tame compared to 2004.
But, 23 feet is not good at all....easily sweep away houses, everything.
