Thanks BIGLOOK. Prayers indeed for Samoa. My first thoughts were about some neighbors of mine who were from Samoa, and then Tana Umaga, ex-Captain of NZ's All Blacks. IIRC, Umaga's family was originally from Samoa then New Zealand. Umaga can fly.

Thanks for the update, Tubebender. I'm concerned that the local news just keeps mentioning "no big waves" yet doesn't give much mention to the increased volume of water as the threat for the West Coast. Then again, who listens to or trusts the local news anymore?

I wish the best of luck to those in the affected area. I’m happy it was so far away. Mrs. Altair has already called me once this week about being in water up to her waist from the last typhoon[1] and another one is coming from the north of Luzon and may hit in a day or two.

All's well here, BD. The tsunami watch was cancelled around 10:30 am and the projected time of arrival (around 1 pm) has come and gone.

There's a cruise ship in Hilo today....leaving right now....but its movement earlier would have been a good indicator of trouble ahead.
