Keep the dowry, return the bride? In Islam, the HUSBAND pays the dowry to the bride. It's more accurately "bride price" than dowry (which is generally taken to mean assets given the bride by her family).

In Islam, the HUSBAND pays the dowry to the bride. It's more accurately "bride price" than dowry...I should have known. It fits in with the treatment of women as property, both by the father and the husband.
