We are in need of prayer again. After a wonderful Thursday afternoon and evening with BiPAP discontinued it was recommended that our son have a permanent tracheostomy done so we could better manage his airway. This was done on Friday morning. Post op was good till 4pm when our son developed a rare side effect of trach surgery where there is air leaking from the fresh trach wound into the tissues of the face, neck and upper chest. As a result of this our DS must be sedated and be still for 5 days, till Weds. This is the exact opposite of what you would want to do for someone like our son who is getting over the flu/upper respiratory infection. He is now on the ventilator because of the sedation. Please pray that his lungs are protected from pneumonia as we wait for the trachea wound to seal itself via scar tissue over the next few days. As soon as the trachea is sealed from any other leaking we can begin vigorous chest therapy via “The Vest” which is our norm and suctioning out secretions which has helped keep him infection free for 18 months till H1N1 showed up.
Also we have dealt with a few instances of appalling medical behavior all in one long Weds. evening/night. Besides that the care has been great, but those instances knocked the air out of me. I will be confronting the manager and hospital administrator regarding this tomorrow after having waited for the individuals to apologize and nothing coming forth. Pray that I can be gracious and merciful in these situations.
