I think most of us here understand that the socialist-lite RINOs running the Republican Party right now won't give up what little power they still have left without a fight.
The main problem with the third party route for me is the combination of the maze of difficult ballot requirements and the sheer number of elected positions for which a third party would have to stand candidates in order to really be able to effect change throughout our entire political system.
My opinion is that--as difficult as it will be--a serious attempt (led by Palin, it would seem right now) to take over the Republican Party from within will still be a far easier road to renewing the Republic than trying to do better than Perot and all of his money was able to do from completely outside the two-party system. I say that as a one-time starry-eyed and naive member of the Libertarian Party, before I figured out that they were far more interested in philosophical discussions and intellectual purity than actually getting people elected.
The perfect is the enemy of the good.

Great thank you!
I have to say I don’t like the “rogue” part of the title. That’s just part of being an American. I think “An American Life” would have been all the title needed.
Oh, how I hope this book stomps all the competition, especially Kennedy’s screed.
How exactly can Palin—or any conservative—unseat the RINOs? Trying to stick with the GOP is only prolonging the inevitable—hard as it may seem to be.
I like an old Chinese proverb: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step”. I have applied this philosophy to the hard to do things in my life. I can’t think of a single time I did not prevail.
The corollary to the above is my proverb: “Your already defeated if you don’t try”.

Sarah got a senator re-elected, and he gives her full credit.
Sarah will elect her congress in 2010, and take office in 2013.
Well, you and I are just going to disagree, then. I think the third party route is folly, you think trying to re-take the Republican Party is folly.
Cheers!
